The Bottom Line If you have a Pillsbury Doughboy fan in your family, why not surprise them with a special Doughboy party? This is one party that is definitely unique and adorable!

Many children and adults alike are Pillsbury Doughboy fans, but finding party goods with Doughboy are next to impossible. If you have a Doughboy fan on your hands, here are some handy tips and suggestions on how to create a Pillsbury Doughboy party they'll never forget!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My children are not well-known for picking "common" birthday themes. Sure, my daughter did great at first, but when she turned 3 she went into this really intense Pillsbury Doughboy phase. I even found a Doughboy costume for her for Halloween, and she recently wore it in a 4th of July parade as well and took 1st place. Doughboy is a hit wherever we go! So, when her 4th birthday rolled around I knew what she'd say. I tried tentatively suggesting she pick Lion King, Barbie, anything that she was in to besides the Doughboy. Woe unto me the day she declared that nothing but a doughboy party would do. YIKES.
Panic set in and I spent the following week frantically calling and surfing the web for every party decorating source I could find. No one, and I mean NO ONE had Doughboy party goods. Left with no other choice I had to pull out Mommy's Bag of Tricks to see if I could pull off a pseudo-Doughboy party, and here is what I came up with:
THE BASICS
Knowing I would be having two parties that meant I would need twice the supplies. That only further complicated matters. So I started with the simple facts: I needed plates, cups, decorations, activities. Doughboy colors are royal blue and white. I made a list of how many guests were expected for each party so I knew how much stuff I had to scrounge for. So off I began on my search. . .
and where else should I land but on Ebay! I spent about 2 weeks checking for Doughboy party goods and finally hit the jackpot! I found someone with an old 1980's incomplete set of Doughboy party plates, cups, streamer, noise makers, hats, loot bags and balloons. There weren't nearly enough, so I decided to use them as decorations and purchase solid royal blue of each item to actually use. I also found some Doughboy party lights to use for decorations, and then I came across some Doughboy bottles of bubbles, t-shirts, and frisbees to use as party favors.
THE DECORATIONS
I used thumb tacks to hang the Doughboy lights on the wall above the cake table. It was really sweet. The Doughboy streamer was used to come down from the ceiling and attach to the tables and chairs. While the lights and streamers were a nice touch, I still needed more decorations. Fortunately my daughter is spoiled by every family member and friend we have and they were more than willing to contribute to her Doughboy habit by purchasing every Doughboy creature they could find. We placed them in every empty space around the room and hung them from the walls, and it really looked cute.
I didn't have enough cups for people to use, so the cups were used for holding markers and candy up and down the tables as centerpieces. The plates were used as wall decorations, and the hats were actually available to wear for those who so desired. I found some Doughboy balloons on Ebay as well and bought 20 of them to fill with helium.
THE INVITATIONS
My search did little to produce anything that would resemble Doughboy invitations, so finally I checked into the Doughboy online shop and found a notepad that was long sheets with his picture on them, and blank in the middle with a pretty blue trim around the edge.
I sat down at my ever-so-trusty computer and sat my margins, used a royal blue font and created an adorable birthday party invitation by running the notepad sheets through my printer. I also ordered custom-printed Doughboy address labels that announced her birthday party to use on the outside of the white envelopes.
The finished product was very professional-looking and I received several compliments on them.
THE CAKE
I was feeling pretty catty and darn proud of myself by this time, and then someone had to burst my bubble. Where was I getting the cake from? Oh, dear. The cake...the cake..the cake....We usually get our birthday cakes from Walmart or our local grocery store, but since Doughboy is a copyrighted image they can't reproduce him. So, I drew a picture of a rather large, doughy critter and they copied that. I then placed a blue M&M on the middle of his hat, and ta-da! I had a plastic doughboy cake server and knife from my kids' toy kitchen collection (don't even ask. . .)that we used to compliment the cake. My daughter was perfectly satisfied.
THEMED ACTIVITIES
In keeping with the Pillsbury tradition I decided to bake cupcakes and let the children decorate them. We bought individual cans of frosting and sprinkles, and lined them up on the table. They loved it!
We also made sack puppets using markers and pom poms and eyes, and had a puppet show to tie into that.
THEMED GIFTS
And just to further enhance the Doughboy theme I managed to snag a Doughboy child-size sleeping bag that was purchased using Doughboy points in exchange for products. It was a hit, and so was the new Doughboy doll that a guest brought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I didn't know it at the time but apparently the Doughboy has a tremendously large fan group, and little kids are some of his biggest fans. He is kinda' cute once you get to know him. . .

MONEY MATTERS

Here is an estimate of what I spent of this party:

Doughboy Vintage Party Goods from EBay-$25.00
Doughboy Party Lights from Ebay--$25.00
Doughboy balloons--20 for $3.99
Doughboy Frisbees--12 for $10
Doughboy Bubbles--.50 each
Doughboy t-shirts, child size--$8.00 each
Doughboy Invitations--$3.99
"Doughboy Cake"--$25

I was able to re-sell the party goods and party lights on Ebay, and I purchased frisbees for the boy guests and bubbles for the girl guests. I only ordered t-shirts for the birthday girl and baby brother, and I used the remainder of the Doughboy notepad sheets to print out thank you notes. So what initially started out as being a rather costly party ended up being not so bad in the end.

WHERE TO FIND DOUGHBOY GOODIES:

**Also remember that every time you purchase a Pillsbury product there will be "Doughboy Points" somewhere on the item's container. If you save and collect these points you can exchange them for Doughboy gifts and items which are usually very unique and only available through the point program.
