The answer is so simple "BUY NOW". I have a clear reason

Buy NOW. Even the inexpensive or second hand PC (less than $400 and CPU clock around 300M Hz) is quite usable for the daily use.

Because I'm picky,

1) It's an operating system, not an 'operation system'. 'Operation' is a system with a picture of a man whose nose lights up if you touch the tweezers to the area around his funny bone.

2) I'm not sure where your stats come from in terms of price decline. I would suggest that for the newest breed of processor you'll pay about the same from year to year. The only law I've heard is that processing speed doubles every 18 months.

3) RAM! Especially with CPU speed increasing beyond the demands of the average user's base of applications, the question really shifts from CPU speed to RAM. Some detail on this would be helpful.

4) Win95 wasn't the first OS to not require special computer knowledge. I would suggest that DOS was really easy enough, but if you're talking about GUIs, Apple and Xerox both made GUIs long before Microsoft, and even MS had Windows 3.0+ that was a pretty slick GUI.

I agree. For example, Windows 95 was NOT the first OS that was easy to use. The first computer I purchased had Windows 3.1...Windows 95 looked different, but 3.1 was a graphical interface. Anyway, needs a bit of tweaking, but pretty good.

I'm not sure I understand completely, but at least I know better how to discuss this with my son, computer programmer. He'll know how to put it into my language level. Thanks a lot.
