| skapa's Full Review: Dell Axim¿ X3 Pocket PC |
I was given one of these PDA's at work and have really loved getting to know the in's and out's of the Dell Axim X3. With WiFi and no bluetooth the X3 does a great job of displaying pictures, webpages and other documents. Like any PDA it's only limits in displaying images is the size of the screen. At 4.7" don't expect to see your digital pictures in all their glory, but you can whip out your PDA to show friends a small representation of it. So as far as the graphics go for this unit, I would say it is a 8.5 out of 10.
The speed of the processor supprised me. It is a scalable unit so it can go up to 400MHz, which compared to other units is about average. I know that running excel and word and even Outlook on it works great but don't expect to sit down and edit video, sound or graphics on it(I don't know of anyone who would expect to be able to do that anyways!). The expandable SD card slot is a nice touch, although the memory is the more expensive as far as what is out there on the market. Most people buy a 1GB SD card (around $100) and never have any problems with filling it with normal tasks.
I guess my overal opinion (or should I say epinion) of the Dell Axim X3 is pretty dang good, now for the downside.
Customer support used to be what Dell stood behind and let their products llive up to that! Now it is not uncommon for people to wait on the phone for more than an hour before talking to anyone, while listening to pep talks by a recording of Dell (at least they canned the "Dude, you got a Dell" guy!!!). My experience with Dell Tech. support is a frightening one. My laptop stopped working, they sent out a tech, he fried the mother board and hard drive. I had to pay $500 out of pocket to get my data back (only got 1/2 of it back) lost my honeymoon picutures and lots of important data. Got on the phone, it was clearly the tech's fault and they said they don't guarantee data, they said I should have backed up my data. Well, how can you back up your data when your computer won't turn on... GRRRR. So after three weeks of calling Dell Tech support I finally got results... a refurbished Laptop, which really sucks. It doesn't start half the time and the other half hangs up during routine tasks. I am now past the warranty period cause they took so long to get me another laptop and won't fix my laptop. Take your chances with tech support!
