My Favorite Thrills And Chills!Aug 17 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line See these films if you want a good scare! I enjoy being frightened by many things, some real, some imagined. The following are, in my opinion, the ten scariest horror films of all time. My favorite is the scariest. Number ten is the least scary, and number one is the scariest. 10. Friday the 13th-- This is a scary thriller, because it embodies and addresses the fear of being alone in the woods at night, and not being able to call anyone for help, because they are all dead. This ranks number 10, because most people don't do a lot of camping in the woods, so this horror film does not hit as close to home as others. 9. Psycho---This is a chilling horror film, and is what I call an oldie but goodie. Staying in motels is more common than camping, and so the fear of being murdered in the shower in a motel strikes a little closer to home than camping in the woods does. This is still not the scariest film by a long shot. 8. The Omen--- This is a scary horror film, because of the fact that it presents the concept of the antichrist coming to take over the earth. This is also scary because of how the evil child is only six years old, and because of the unexplained" accidents " he causes. This is not closer to the top of the list, however, because it is not a fear that most people deal with on a daily basis. 7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre-- This is an extremely intense horror film. This makes the list because of the sheer brutality and violence with which the slaughters are committed. This is a very frightening horror film, but it does not strike very close to home, which is why it is not higher on the list. 6. Poltergiest--- This is a scary film that involves a little girl being kidnapped by evil spirits right from her own home. This still does not strike as close to home, however, because this is not very realistic. 5. A Nightmare On Elm Street--This is a horrifying film, which involves an evil monster who kills teenagers in their dreams. This film is where it is on the list because of the frightening nature of the film, but it is unrealistic, and does not strike too close to home. 4. Needful Things---This film made my list because, although it is not a film that will give you nightmares, it is a film that reveals a frightening truth about human nature. This film is somewhat close to home in the fact that people will do evil things in order to obtain the material things they desire. 3. The Amityville Horror-- This film deals with evil spirits tormenting a family after they move into an old house. This film strikes close to home, because evil spirits torment people in more subtle ways in reality, and because evil is invading a home, which is supposed to be a haven from danger. 2. Halloween-- This is a very intense horror film. It deals with a masked killer stalking teenagers on Halloween night. The frightening thing about this film is that evil rituals and murders really do take place on Halloween night. This film hits very close to home. 1. Scream---This film is very intense. It deals with a masked killer murdering people in a small town, in a way that imitates scary movies. The frightening thing about this is that there really are sickos out there that do things that are similar to this is many ways. This film, in my opinion, hits closest to home of all of the horror movies I've mentioned. |
