Sentimental Lady... (Reply to this comment)
by kedsand1
Sentimental Lady used to haunt me. It was one of those songs that I had heard when I was 6 or 7. It was an peacefully eerie song with lyrics that were, for me, gobbledegook, as well. And, for the longest time, I neither knew the title of the song nor the artist behind.
However, one day, I was talking to a friend at work who was an absolute aficionado of 70s music. Suddenly, but inexplicably, reminded of that haunting song, I tried to mumble whatever lyric I could discern from that song from long ago. Immediately, my friend said, matter-of-factly, "Sentimental Lady, Fleetwood Mac." Then, he went on to explain about Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, Bob Welch, and the lineup changes that ultimately led to the Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks years.
Needless to say, my work friend's knowledge impressed me to no end, but finally finding out the title of Sentimental Lady brought a calming peace to my subconscious mind. Great song, and great article!

Very Disarming (Reply to this comment)

I'm happening onto this story very late, and obviously I hope the plot's getting happier for the protagonist, but what a nice piece of writing; who'd've thought High Fidelity's flashbacks didn't really require two people per relationship to be interesting reading? A well-told tale, and as someone whose lovelife didn't involve other people til age 24 (although it did involve an intense crush on Darlene Connor from Roseanne), I can at least say that the long wait to find someone doesn't seem bad anymore once you find the _right_ someone. Or maybe you even know that now.

Unfortunately, I missed the boat on this one. What a great idea, Tim! You did a wonderful job with the review, and there's no shame whatsoever in baring your heart and soul. A romantic man is something still sought after by many a girl.
Thanks for the enjoyable read! :)

I’ll say I can relate – probably in more ways then you can imagine. Here’ s to us finding love.
Kudos to you for putting your feelings out there, and just being yourself!

p.s. it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who does the “conversation rehearsal” thing.

Yes, this is the ultimate corny... (Reply to this comment)

My first big crush on Matt James in Junior High. This song came on the radio on the way back from a field trip and just seemed to express my sentiments exactly:
Hello by Lionel Ritchie (somewhere around 1983 or 1984):
I've been alone with you inside my mind
And, in my dreams, I've kissed your lips a thousand times
I sometimes see you pass outside my door
Hello, is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes, I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted, and my arms are open wide
Cause you know just what to say and you know just what to do
And I want to tell you so much I love you.
I long to see the sunlight in your hair
And tell you time and time again how much I care
Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow
Hello, I've just got to let you know
Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart, cause I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying I love you.
Thanks for reminding me of my first crush!

Hey Mr. Pillar,
A couple comments.
1) Way to bare your soul. The chicks dig that... at least we guys expect them to.
2) Wow, you named them all. That takes guts.
3) You're not as much of an idiot as you may think for having a crush on a video game character. I myself have a weakness for the "boom anime babes that make me think the wrong thing", as the Barenaked Ladies would say.
4) Being 25 and still a virgin is nothing to be ashamed of in today's culture, when so many people give it up and regret it later.
5) Can I join your write-off? Please, please? Email me or something.

. . .You invited me to "do it" with you!!!
We hopelessly-romantic virgins have got to stick together, y'know!?!
I still have mine in pieces but will be patching them together into a quilt sometime before Thanksgiving (within the next few hours, I hope) and displaying my masterpiece!
You have quite a masterpiece here, too! Lots of unusual choices for your crushes.
The only cartoon character I can remember having a crush on was The Phantom. The rest of them were live--or else characters in novels or stories, such as Father Ralph in The Thorn Birds.
There ARE a few deceased ones I find to be pretty appealing. Among them: Joseph (the one with the multicolored coat), Abe Lincoln, Clark Gable, and John Boles. :o)

"Head Over Feet"... (Reply to this comment)

...was my amazing crush song for a while too. It was just quirky enough that I could listen to it and convince myself I wasn't really listening to a girly love song.
Great job...
