The Bottom Line If I were to compile a CD of love songs that strike me emotionally, these are the ones that would go on it.
If I were to compile a CD of love songs that strike me emotionally, these are the ones that would go on it. As most people reading this know, I'm a rock fan. Thus the songs on here are going to be good ones. No Michael Bolton, Celine Dion or Richard Marx. Throw all those in the wastebasket where they belong. 1: Wild Horses-The Rolling Stones (From Sticky Fingers): This one is an excellent song for being with the one you love, after she has had a bad day. Play this one and remind her that you are always there. "Wild Horses couldn't drag me away". 2: In Your Eyes-Peter Gabriel (From So): In my opinion, possibly the greatest love song of all time. A song about the redemptive power of love. ("In your eyes/The light the heat/In your eyes/I am complete") 3: Don't Let Me Down-The Beatles (From Past Masters Volume 2): A classic love song. Put this one on at any time when you are with your loved one. 4: Black-Pearl Jam (From Ten): This is one to listen to when the relationship is going sour. Or if your loved one has walked out, play this one loud. You'll understand the anguish as Eddie Vedder sings, "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life. I just wish it could be mine." 5: Please-Nine Inch Mails (From The Fragile): This is a song for rather sensual moments. Put it on as background music. Trent sings "Breathe echoing the sound/Time starts slowing down/Sink until I drown/I don't ever wanna make it stop." 6: Take Me Down-Smashing Pumpkins (From Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness: One of the Pumpkins ballads, this one is another one about the redemptive power of love. ("When you sleep, when you dream/I'll be there if I need you"). 7: Let My Love Open The Door-Pete Townshend (From Empty Glass): This is another excellent love song. On his third solo album, the Who's axe man recorded an ode to the healing power of love. ("When people keep repeating. That you'll never fall in love/When everybody keeps retreating/And you can't seem to get enough/Let my love open the door/To your heart"). This is one song I am going to have played at my wedding. 8: Muzzle-Smashing Pumpkins (From Mellon Collie): Another song for a relationship on the verge on ending. ("Have you ever heard the words/I'm singing in these songs/It's for the girl I've loved all along/Can a taste of love be so wrong/All things must surely have to end/Great loves will one day have to part"). 9: Live-I Alone (From Throwing Copper): A song that I first heard when I was in my sophomore year of high school and was in love with a girl who loved me as a friend. But couldn't love me the way I wanted her to. ("I alone love you/I alone tempt you/I alone love you/Fear is not the end of this.") 10: Nine Inch Nails-The Perfect Drug (From The Lost Highway Soundtrack): This song is one that I sang to the girl I was in love with my senior year of high school. An excellent song that looks at how love can be like a drug ("You are the perfect drug/Take me with you/Without you everything falls apart/Without you/It's not as much fun to pick up the pieces"). There you have it. A good collection of "not silly" love songs. |
