Parents responsible (Reply to this comment)

"Otherwise, you're just rubbing salt in their wounds by making it evident that their suffering is your meal ticket."

Oh, really? Then why do they, too, worship these artists? People like 50 Cent are not "rubbing salt in their wounds, they are an example of freedom from poverty. The artists are admired because they went through the same things ghetto children still go through, and they came out alive and wealthy. I hardly think that poor communities find this offensive in any way, form, or fashion.

It cannot be argued that entertainment does not influence some people. The fact is that it shouldn't influence a person's actions. If one was to shoot down a cop and blame it on a rapper, one would still be convicted. It is not a strong defense. In the case of Columbine, many blamed Harris and Klebold's obsession with Marylin Manson for the tragedy. However, one has to note that the parents had a BOMB FACTORY in their basement! That is called negligent parenting. It is NOT the responsibilty of an artist to teach morals. That is the job of the parents. A Constitutional amendment guarantees the right of a parent to control his or her child. So, LET THEM. Forget entertainment: children learn by following the examples of their parents, and they are also subject to parental guidance and rules. It is no business of anyone else to attempt to guarantee that a child learns the difference between reality and entertainment. If a child cannot do this, parents are to blame, and should be just as aptly punished for their offspring's deed as the child his- or herself.

Fantastic points you made- and you're right that teenagers should have less to be miserable and angry about today, and yet somehow youth crime and violence seems to be rising faster and faster.

What a flawed idea (Reply to this comment)

Just because you have more money, doens't automatically mean you have to be responsible. Besides, you whining about someone making more money just by BS, shows me that you are a jealous person. I don't have moolah, but I am not going to curse someone that took the initative to put forth what they felt was a profitable idea.

As well, I was truly offended that we tend to think that "kids today are worse then we were" What an arrogant and ignorant statement. Arrogant, because it claims that one generation was better than the other. Ignorant because you failed to realize that Ceaser and Plato had the notion that music of their day corrupted youth, and that "kids today have no respect"

The listener in music is responsible for their actions...not the artist. When a person gets in their car drunk and kills someone, we blame the person and not Budweiser. Right? Why should music be any different.

I think it's another pointless attempt for people to want to blame someone/something else for their problems, rather than be responsible themselves.

That parents aren't to be held responsible. I'm saying that the artists are responsible too, because they TOO have a significant effect on the child's life. Parents, first and foremost need to do their jobs.

Oh, and BTW, Britney IS holding up that sign. It doesn't have to be written for it to be a sign.

artists as role models? come on (Reply to this comment)
by scigamer
I see your overall point but the only role models kids should be looking toward is there parents(if there lucky) and themselves. Just because your in the spotlight doesn't mean you have to be a role model. I don't see britney holding a sign that says you must have sex to be cool. If any kid thinks that, then the parents aren't paying attention and are not doing there job and their the ones that should be responsible not artists.

Glad you decided not to be stingy with the MH. =) What I don't get is how people are unwilling to give me an MH...but it's the ONLY review of the product. It's MH by default! =)

Glad you enjoyed my review...I thought it was rather meandering after I wrote it, but I hoped someone would glean some information from it.
