I currently have Verizon service but wanted Voicestream for its international capability (GSM network) when traveling abroad. I live on Long Island and decided to give the phone a good workout. Much to my disbelief, the phone has absolutely NO SERVICE on most of the north shore of Long Island. Coverage on the south shore is good but there are LOTS of holes in their coverage areas. One connected, dropped calls are not frequent and the clarity of the service is very good. Though their network is not as extensive as the other major wireless providers, they have seamless coverage in MOST of the metro areas. The problem with the late arrival carriers such as Sprint and Voicestream is the negative publicity regarding cell sites. Obviously AT&T and Verizon have sites established from the 80's, therefore, better coverage. Pricing for Voicestream is not as competetive since they have to pick up the tab for the long distance. The two majors have their long distance subsidiaries to thank for low cost subsidized long distance. At any rate, if you travel internationally and don't mind the dead spots in the NY Metro area, it may be worthwhile to investigate. Aside from POOR customer service, I will be keeping my service with Voicestream.
