I checked out this site recently after discovering that my mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Some of this cancerous monster has apparently now spread into her lungs and she struggles to contain the constant cough that now plagues her.
My grandmother died of stomach and breast cancer in the 1960's before much research had been done in the area of cancer treatments, and my older sister has also been told that she has a small lump in one of her breasts as well.
With all the money that is spent in so many fields of research, why can't more be done to find a cure for some of the most common forms of cancer? If one woman in eight are now susceptible to this disease, and if breast cancer is the number one killer to women in their 40's, tell me, why can't our brilliant scientists and genetic engineers find something that will eliminate this life-threatening, life-ending disease?
My mother is now in Stage II of her fight against the tumor that is ravaging her elderly body, which means that her tumor is less than 5 cm. But it is quickly spreading, and therefore, her treatments will be more aggressive. She is scheduled to have her left breast removed including the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes, and then she will have to undergo chemotherapy and medication to battle the lump in her lung and to enhance her overall prognosis. It's an uphill fight, and the chance for removing all the cancer and keeping it from returning is about 70-80% according to her doctors.
If a web site can help in the fight against cancer, then I'm for recommending it highly. I would also recommend learning more about cancer and cancer prevention from other web sites as well as the site sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
It's a funny and tragic thing about us humans--we fight harder when the battle is in our own back yard.
Thanks for reading this, and God bless you all.
