Signed up for Pac Bell wireless as a charter member when it was almost the only game in town. Wanted a really cheap plan for emergency use only. Charter member plan included free calls home for life and that's almost all we use the phone for.
Pac Bell tried to upsell us on a different plan and only the threat of a class action suit made them back off. Subsequently bought a second (Nokia) phone on the $9.95 family plan ($12.95 with taxes etc.) and the average monthly bill is around $40 for the two plans. Considering that all the calls made are free, this is still a lot of money, but better than anyone else so far.
Not had much problem with dropped calls, poor signal or lack of coverage in the Bay Area.
Fight over terms of original contract created negative impression of customer service.
