Interesting list (Reply to this comment)

of musicals... never thought that I would see Purple Rain and Wizard of Oz on the same list. But different strokes for different folks. :)
If this were my list, I would have to add in Sound of Music, West Side Story as well.

No argument with 1-5... (Reply to this comment)

...though I would put Oz first out of deference to Judy Garland.
As to the others, it's all a matter of taste. I'm not sure Staying Alive (or Saturday Night Fever) qualifies as a musical...it's more a sound track. Same with Purple Rain.
I'd include "Cabaret" in the list for sure instead of one of those. From ye olden days of my youth there's "West Side Story" which I'd put up there as number 6.
"Sound of Music", "South Pacific."
Lots to pick from.
I love lists!

Hmm, I like Mary Poppins okay, but I watched it everyday for a year with a 3 yr old girl I nannied and it brings back sad memories. And Bedknobs is just silly. I guess Music Man could do, but then I wouldn't be so eclectic!

Hehe. Yes, eclectic taste, but they all make me laugh. Some more than others, of course. I'll have to watch A Hard Day's Night! Thanks.

I really despise Rocky Horror Picture Show, but agree with just about everything else on your list. Maybe if you could replace RHPS with something, anything. Heck, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, or Mary Poppins will do.

Jan, this is the single most eclectic list of musicals I've ever (Reply to this comment)

seen. Absolutely amazing to see "Purple Rain" "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Singing in the Rain" on the same list. I'm not a musical fan (I guess my favorite would be "A Hard Days Night") but if I were obliged to put together a list it would probably look something like this one. Wonderful choices. Howard

Hehe. You mean Sound of Music? Well, it's good, but boring and Andrews is more fun in Victor/Victoria. If you meant West Side Story, I tried watching it today and couldn't stomach it after a while. Was muting the songs except for "Living in America." That's the best part of the entire movie.

Got scared when I saw what you were writing on. I was afraid you were going to mention that horrible movie I can only call "The Unspeakable Place". You didn't though, so good list you have there:)

Wow! Most of my favorite movies are on here! Great minds think alike? Or perhaps some of these movies touch the young and the old alike.

This is fun. But ya gotta see Saturday Night Fever. Rebel Without a Cause set to disco, more or less.
