When you run dialguard, it should show an icon in the system tray. As long as it is running, it will show you the information when your computer attempts to connect.

The only versions I've used are 1.0 and 1.8.7. You might want to try both. Also, I've only used this with Windows 98 and ME, so I don't know about other OSes.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I was thinking about fully explaining how to do the setup. However, that has been covered here by two people already, and all the instruction you need is actually included with the system. Maybe I should say something about that, though.

As for dialguard, there really isn't any more to using it. It's a very simple program that runs in the background, and all it does is monitor the system and wait for a dial-out. It was designed for system administrators who wanted to keep people from connecting outside the system without authorization, so it's pretty basic. I'll see if I can find a good URL to download it from though.

And yes, it is unethical for the most part. Not entirely, though; for example, I pay for Juno Web service, and I still need to do this to connect through that service. Yes, I have called customer support and verified that it's within TOS, after many long hours of explaining exactly what I was doing.

I might edit this still. If I do, I'll let you know. Thanks for the input!

since you asked (Reply to this comment)

since you emailed me about my rating, I figured I'd post my reasons here:

Well, you fulfill your title, but you don't really fulfill the category title completely.

Second, the dialguard thing is left sorta hanging, there's probably a lot more information you could give about how to find and use it.

And finally, the semi-unethical taint makes it hard for me to give this a VH, even with my other "requirements" met.

There's certainly nothing wrong with only a mere 'helpful'.

Or just chalk it up to me being a cranky wánkér. :)

I think you still need the real info to connect with the Dreamcast. Because you can't install the ISP software on the DC itself, you need the 'translated' info.

But hacking netzero works for your PC.

You could just hack NetZero so there aren't any ads....

(Oops! Did I just say that????)
