Las Mejores Hispánicas Películas
by janesbit1 | Aug 28 '01
Although it's common to find Hispanic stereotypes in films, it's more difficult to access films that respect the culture (unless it's by a Spanish director).

WALKOUT (Reply to this comment)

This is a movie about heritage, even culture. It was an HBO special, but should have made it to the big screen!! It's about east l.a. students taking a stand for their equal rights, a revolution. it is a true story and I believe todo a la jiente needs to watch this! I cryed, but felt an overwhelming pride!

EL Norte 1983 .... 1985 Academy award nominee for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Gregory Nava directed movie is one of the best movies of not only latino but world cincma. Plz, take a look at this movie.

With the migration of people in different parts of the world due to , political, and social economical reasons this movie is poignant and vibrant in todays times.

OH, I was looking for this movie on netflix. After I could not find, this lead me to idmb and other searches only to find the status of this movie is disappearing. Please find this movie and watch it.

Certainly another problematic labelling, in keeping with the spirit of E2 categories. Haven't seen Eisenstein's film.

"Hispanic" (Reply to this comment)
by Stephen_Murray, Stephen_Murray is an Advisor on Epinions in Movies
is a problematic term, rejected by Latinos on the West Coast, embraced by the Hispanos of New Mexico, and, by Caribbean (Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican) and Colombian people on the East Coast.

Sergei Eisenstein's "Que Viva Mexico" is surely the greatest film about Mexico ever (parts also released as "Thunder Over Mexico").

I agree that you need a director who understands the culture to make a picture about that culture. Since you have an interest Iberian cultura, you may want to read my reviews on the NYC restuarant specializing in food from Seville, "Saborossima Sevilla"; my review about Madrid, "Cuidad Cielo"; and about Puerta Vallarta, "Puerta Vallarta Paradisa". All best regards. ceo.

Only ones on here which I've seen are Traffic, West Side Story, and Men with Guns. How's that for sad. I've added the other seven to my to see list though, and I'll let ya know what I think when I finally catch them (could be awhile since my to see list contains about 400 movies).
