Listen Up Guys! Here are some rules you might want to follow.

"Planning" is the key word. Almost any proposal that's planned will be special. It's the spur of the moment ones that feel phoney.

Well... if that's how you feel... (Reply to this comment)

I understand where you are coming from here, but I just wanted to say that I think a proposal of marriage should ultimately be about two people deciding to join their lives together forever - not so much about the knee or the ring. Some of that sounds superficial. And I quite like the spur of the moment type of proposals.

My husband and I never had a "traditional" proposal. We didn't have a big wedding, and after a year of marriage, we just now have the money to get our rings made for our anniversary. I don't think that has made any significant change in my life one way or the other.

I'll always remember the day that I promised myself I would marry that man, I'll always cherish the day we married, and I will never regret not having seen him on his knee with a ring in a box. Our love is about much more than a five second question, and you will probably understand what I mean one day.

I liked the review, I just disagree and I wanted to share my feelings.

I especially like the rule about not proposing in a public place. It would be extremely awkward if she didn't want to get married, and could make her say yes anyway. As you said, then a lot more people will know when they break up.
