My top earning epinion: WHY?
by macgyver24 | Aug 30 '01
The vast majority of the earnings on good epinions are from INCOME SHARE, not EROYALTIES. Don't ignore the "outsiders".

I've also noticed that income share gets you more money than e-royalties do. I've also noticed that items that get more outside hits get a higher income share.

Except for movies, I try to pick categories or items that don't already have a lot of reviews. In fact, my review is the only review (so far) in a few cases.

After reading this review I went and checked out my own stats to see what surprises lay in store. Woof! A review I wrote about Univision somehow managed to scarf almost 1,000 hits !!

Huh?

I thought writing that one was a pure labor of love. A review that nobody but me would ever care about. And to think, somewhere along the line, 1,000 people checked it out. Who were this voyeurs?? Inquiring minds want to inquire.

Later!

Yep-often members work very hard to be read by other members when the review is to help outside consumers as well, and depending on the category generally does make more on IS. Being the among the first to write on particular products helps, and some categories do much better than others-like computers and electronics. (Unfortunately this is why some members write 40+ reviews on different DVD players, cell phones, stereos, etc-items frequently looked up by outsider consumers)
Worse-those that ethically abuse this way tend to have the higher read numbers so they keep the top spots-knocking the reviews of people who actually own/use these items further down the list.

Sorry for the side rant! Enjoyed reading your thoughts on this

Some reviews in certain categories get killed, and others lie and gather dust.
