MAKING A GIFT BAG..
Aug 30 '01
The Bottom Line Gift wrap and gift cards are easy to make and so economical too.
You will find that once you become a rubber stamper, not only do you not go to card stores any more, but you find other things to make besides your greeting cards!
I like to make gift bags for my presents. You can make them to match your greeting card or match the present that will be put into it. If your present is small, even a plain piece of typing paper can be made into a work of art!
You will need:
Stamped paper
Mold to wrap paper around (box or book)
Double stick tape
Hole punch
Cord or ribbon
The dimensions of your finished bag will depend on what you choose to use as a mold. Cut a piece of paper long enough to wrap around your mold, adding an extra inch for overlapping. Fold over the top edge of the bag.
Stamp and decorate the paper to your liking. Each design is unique, so there is no right or wrong to this.
Wrap the paper neatly around your mold. Overlap at the back and secure with double stick tape; this almost hides the seam all together. To make the base of the bag, fold over the flaps as if you were wrapping a present, creasing firmly. Secure that also with double stick tape.
Remove the mold. Gently fold sides of the bag in, creasing them in half at the top. Punch one or two holes at the top of the bag on each side. If desired, thread the bag with cord or ribbon for a handle. A little gift card can also be made with ease, to match, then threaded into the ribbon or cord, as an added touch.
This is a very easy project and the cord or ribbon can really spruce up your present. Once you start making your gift wrap, it will be hard to go and buy gift wrap unless you are in a big hurry or in a last minute bind.
