Everyone gets angry: Music the best medicine part of the anger management write-off
Sep 01 '01
The Bottom Line Hopefully these songs help you let out your anger!
I first got an e-mail to join this write-off a few weeks ago. It said “anger management” in the title, so my first thought was that a member was mad at me for doing something wrong on epinions. I opened the e-mail a little nervously, but I was relieved to know that the e-mail was simply an invitation to a write-off. A lot of people e-mail me to invite me to write-offs, and I usually do not join them. I don’t really like the fact that there is a set date to post something and usually the topic is not to my interest, but this one was different. In this write-off I have the option to post my review on either the 1st or 2nd of September, which is nice because there is not as much pressure to post as there would be for a normal write-off. I also liked the idea behind the write-off: write about music that helps you let out your anger.
Everyone gets angry. This is an inevitable fact of life. It is just how people let out there anger that differentiates them from everyone else. The best way that I feel to let out anger is listening to music. One of the best feelings is letting out your anger, and listening to a certain type of music will help you do just that.
I don’t get angry very often, but when I do here is a list of some of the songs that I like to listen to:
Note: these songs are in random order
1.Blink 182-Everytime I look for you Blink 182 is known as a “punk” band. Which is a really poor assumption to make towards there music. In my opinion Blink 182 is a rock band and has always been a rock band. What is the difference between punk and rock? If Blink 182 is a punk band then there really is no difference between punk and rock. Anyway, this song is by far the best off their new album entitled “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.” The song starts off with loud guitars playing, and about 10 seconds into it you hear Mark Hoppus (the lead singer) start into the vocals of the song. Then we hear the other lead singer (Tom DeLonge) start on his vocals. The song is really upbeat and the music is somewhat loud and so are the lyrics.
The song sounds especially good when you play it as loud as your speakers will allow. The lyrics are extremely easy to memorize, and in some weird way they make sense. So to let all of your anger out blast this song and sing along if you know the words.
2. Ben Folds-Rockin’ The Suburbs If you have ever heard any of Ben Folds Five’s music then you will know that Ben Folds isn’t that much different. (The Ben Folds Five broke up and Ben Folds went on solo) You would most likely classify this music as alternative or somewhat soft rock. You would probably expect all of these songs that are supposed to relieve stress to be loud and very explicit. This song has explicit language, but it is by no means a loud trashy song. The instrumentals are pretty cool to listen to and Folds’ voice matches up perfectly to the instrumentals. Also, the lyrics in this song are a nice touch in adding to your stress being relieved.
Let me tell ya’ll what it’s like
Being male, middle class, and white
It’s a b*tch if ya don’t believe
Listen up to my new CD
3. Linkin’ Park- One Step Closer Linkin’ Park pretty much started out as a word of mouth band. You couldn’t go to a school without seeing a Linkin’ Park sticker in a locker or on a binder. Soon after people started hearing about this band, the song “One Step Closer” was released and people loved it. Radio stations across the US started playing this song and Linkin’ Park became very famous very fast.
The music that Linkin’ Park gives us is very loud and upbeat, but the thing that separates Linkin’ Park from bands like Limp Bizkit or Korn is the fact that Linkin’ Park doesn’t swear in their songs. Which is a very nice change from all of the other stuff that is out today. This song is very loud and is excellent for getting your anger out. With lyrics like this how could this song not help you?
I cannot take this anymore
Saying everything I’ve said before
All these words they make no sense
I found this in ignorance
Less I hear the less you say
You’ll find that out anyway
4. Eve 6- On the Roof Again Eve 6 is by no means a hard rock band you could call them soft rock if you just had to use the term “rock” in there name. Anyway, the lyrics in this song really separate it from all the rest. You really have to pay attention to the lyrics to get the message of the song. It is about someone who has everything, but got into it too early and now everything is going horribly wrong. Lead singer, Max Collins, really sets a great tone for this song and the great instrumentals make it one of the anger management songs.
I only put 4 songs in this review because hopefully by the time you get to the fourth one your anger/ stress is relieved and you are feeling happy once more. Another reason is because when I was reading the rules for this write-off, if I remember correctly, we are only supposed to put 3-4 songs in the review. If 4 songs is not enough for you then you will have to somehow make due with that fact or read these other participants reviews:
FraggleMom and Kenshin-Guy (the hosts)
-Natch
-Xeno3998
-Cartman_2k
-GasJocket214 (this is the review you just read)
-Starcrossedkat
-Arielssong
-Annexation
-IleneG
-MagnumForce
-LessThanNick1
-AinsleyJo
-panterad00d
-Flamepillar
-imokliel
-shadow_dream
-amiquilena
Thanks for reading my submission to this write-off, and I hope that these 4 songs will help you let out your anger.
