The Bottom Line BOO!!! Let's make some fun stuff for Halloween...
The Holiday Season is quickly approaching and it seems it starts earlier each year. Stores are already displaying witches, Goblins and loads of candy, yet my children are still swimming about every day. Well I guess we must face it fall is around the corner and the first Holiday starts with Halloween. This review is going to share several craft ideas for fun that your children can easily help you create, and also things you can give as Halloween treats. Pin on spooks Materials needed Sheets of craft foam in orange, black, white, green small google eyes cool melt hot glue gun and glue sticks fine line permanent marker [black] glue on pin backs [available in packages in your craft store] Craft paint in various colors patterns cut from coloring books or printed off line Trace pattern on to craft foam and cut out. For Pins you want your pattern to be 2-3 inches. Bat after cutting out foam shape in black glue on small google eyes, paint a yellow triangle under eyes for nose, glue on pin back and you have a scary bat pin. One sheet of craft foam will provide about 15-18 2x3 inch bats. Save scraps... ghost For the ghost I use a pattern that is about 4 inches tall 3 inches wide in places. Once again trace your pattern onto the foam, cut out. For Eyes I use 10mm oval google eyes, then add a dot of pink craft paint on each cheek just for color. With the perma marker draw an open oval for a mouth coloring in the bottom 1/3 of the mouth to give it an open look. Glue on pin back and BOOOOOOOO!!! Pumpkin For the pumpkin you don't really need a pattern, but being no artist I did use one cut from a coloring book for a pumpkin about 3 inches in diameter. Once pumpkin is cut from Orange craft foam use scraps from your bats to make your jack-o-lantern face. You can make happy faces or scary faces. Cut out stems and if you wish a leaf out of green foam and glue to pumpkin. Attach pin back and there ya go. Jack-o-lanterns for everyone. I love making these and the kids enjoy helping with the gluing and face designs. Remember with small children, never let them use a hot glue gun even if it is a cool melt, unsupervised. My sons classroom can't wait to see what I'm going to send for the next Holiday. These ideas can be used for any Holiday by changing patterns and color of Craft foam. A Halloween gift for the Teacher While the kids love getting gifts, we can't forget the teacher. This year my sons teacher is male so it's going to be more difficult to make him the usual fancy crafts that I do, but this one will be perfect for Halloween. Materials Needed glass jar 12-16 ounce jar with lid [I save pickle jars] 1 sheet orange felt Hot glue gun and glue sticks 6 in square of orange cotton material small amount of fiberfill or cottonballs will work ¼ yard black lace 1 16 ounce bag of candy corns Wash jar and lid in hot water, if using a pickle jar like I sometimes do, 2 tbl spoons of baking soda and hot water let sit over night will remove any pickle smell. When Jar and lid are dry take your lid and place on orange square and draw around your lid leaving at least 1/2 inch on all sides. cut out your circle then place on your jar lid with hot glue stuffing as you go until your lid is covered with the orange circle. You can trim off the salvage later. Glue ribbon to the outside edge of your orange circle of stuffed fabric. Trim any inside salvage even to the jar lid. Cut out your Jack-O-Lantern face, glue to front of jar, and fill jar with candy corns. A Gift that teachers will love to share with their students or take home to share with the family. These are just some of the Halloween crafts I have done over the years and I take pride in when others enjoy what I have made or given as a gift. It's not always the gift that means the most, it can be the thought that went into making it that makes it so special. |
