Ok I am going to admit, yes I the bubbly IleneG gets mad. I deal with my anger in many ways, either watching a movie where my ex-boyfriend the actor gets killed (don’t ask, but I only did this once after being badly jilted!), or listening to music where it just makes you think to yourself Woah I know what that person is saying for sure! I usually tend to stay with the music route of dealing with my anger, just because watching the ex get killed, is fun and all, but it isn’t very healthy! I had been working on an “Angry Chick” music mix for a while to put up on epinions, getting together my favorite songs, yet I just couldn’t ever finish it completely. Then I got a letter in my mail asking if I would like to participate in a write off about Anger management!! Wow what a great way to get my favorite artists out there, and finally get off my butt and finish my review!! So Now I am finally done here is what I consider some of the best “Angry Chick” music out there! Ok, ok, I admit it there were a few guys I included on this CD, just to liven things up, so I guess this has changed from an “Angry Chick CD” to an “Angry Artist CD” So here I sit in my “(Not so nice F Word) your fascist beauty standards” T-shirt and present to you... my favorite Angry Songs I like to listen to when really wanting to hit someone or something! Alanis Morrisette's You Outta Know I know you are thinking, “How can this not be included on any woman’s CD?”. You are right, this is the ULTIMATE angry woman song! It is about getting jilted, and shows the truth behind what most women feel when being dumped, and finding out the one they loved moved on. I remember the first time I heard this song, I was with my fiancé, and 6 weeks later we broke up. The song had a totally different feel when I was dumped for another woman! Whenever I get really upset at a man, I stick on this song, and cheer up immediately, since I know there is someone out there who put what was in my mind, into words! Tori Amos's Precious Things I know, everyone who knows me is saying “Duh, of course there is Tori in this mix!”, my answer is, do you realize how hard it was to pick JUST ONE SONG? There are a lot of Tori songs I would have loved to include on this, but then it would be a Tori write-off, and that isn’t going to be coming for a while....but stay tuned, I might surprise you all! Anyway back to why I chose this song. I don’t know how many of you have ever heard this song, but it is very much a “Power” song for women, heck it has the best line in any song I have ever heard “So you can make me come that doesn’t make you JESUS!” This song no matter what, always makes me smile, and when I want to get out my frustration I start to sing with that one line and I feel so much better! Concrete Blonde's Joey Ahhh lost love, and anger coming out of the most gorgeous voice around. What more could a person look for? This song talks about the love, the loss, and the coming to terms with what happened. It is a very soft song at first and moves into a more hard core sound toward the end but it is wonderful to listen to...and a great song to help take out frustrations, and “Fight your secret war”. Pearl Jam’s Jeremy Ok how can I not include this song, about a boy who longed to be loved, and finally went nuts and killed himself?? This song is very powerful, the video is just as powerful and it is in my opinion, the Best song ever done by Pearl Jam. This song gets under your skin and makes you wonder what the heck goes through the minds of some of these kids who play teenage high school angst! Now mind you I hardly condone what tragedies have happened, especially with living in Florida where the child shot his own teacher! This shows how something can go wrong, and it does it in a way that can make you think I am furious with what is happening, so let’s remedy it! Ani Difranco's Not a Pretty Girl “Put me down punk, wouldn’t you prefer a maiden fair, isn’t there a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere?” Ani is one of the most amazing wordsmiths with a voice of beauty and honesty that you can’t help but love. If you haven’t ever heard her music, I suggest find Not a Pretty Girl as fast as you can and check her out. She will blow your mind, and you will realize that that you can just relax to her beautiful music, and heartfelt words. Of course “I am not a maiden fair, and I am not a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere” Sum 41’s Fat Lip Punk has returned and it is now mainstream! I am sorry for anyone who doesn’t think that this bad is punk but if you listen to the words and the music, you will realize that the anger is there! I for one am extremely happy since I am a huge fan of not only the music but the lifestyle. I can’t live it but oh well. Don’t think it is punk then read the following lyrics from this song and see I am right! “I don’t want to waste my time, and become a casualty of society. I’ll never fall in line, become a victim of your conformity, and back down.” This not only gets the adrenaline pumping but has great words with meaning and an entire legacy of past punk rockers behind it! The perfect song to go and break something to! Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot 1 Minute Man “Break me off, show me what you got, cause I don’t want no 1 minute man” Ok how many people could get away with telling men, what they really want in bed, in a song? Well we all know that the woman of many talents, known as Missy Elliot, came out with this very interesting song that tells a man exactly what a woman wants in bed. I mean please how many women really want the opposite? This is a song that makes you realize to always know what you want, and get it, don’t put up with anything less, no matter what! Pain’s Fight This song isn’t well known in the mainstream, but it is a great song that gets everyone riled up. I remember the first time I heard it I thought it was great because it was so fast and up tempo, but the best line came out and I couldn’t ever stop loving this song. “Funny how a fight can break the ice and make the whole night better. Everybody loves to fight, FIGHT! Everybody loves to fight, FIGHT!” Eninem’s The Way I am This is one of the few songs I would actually say I would listen to off of the album by Eminem. Now don’t get me wrong, I think he is very talented but I think he needs a prozac as well! This song, is showing the world what Eminem thinks of himself, and is saying hey you don’t like it too bad for I am this way and you can’t change it! For this, I give the man credit where it is due! This is one amazing song, and a powerful one at that. When I hear it I just want to go and shake up everything! Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women You want a powerful song, this one makes you feel like you can do and achieve anything, and believe me, it definitely has become an anthem for many young women today! Another great power woman song by this trio(yes I know they used to have five and four, but now they are three so let it rest people !) Whenever I hear this song, I want to just say “Hey look at me, I have a job, I buy all of my own stuff, and I am doing just fine without anyone’s help!” Blue Cantrell’s Hit Em Up Style(Oops) “Hey ladies, when your man’s gonna get buck wild, just go back and hit em up style, get your hands on his cash, then spend it to the last dime for all the hard times”. Damn where was this song when my boyfriend cheated on me? Man this is the ULTIMATE get even song if I ever saw or heard one! Ladies all I can say is next time I get cheated on, I am going to Nieman Marcus!! This song helps you deal with this aspect of relationships that unfortunately seems to occur often these days. But now we have a revenge route....get them where it hurts, in the wallet! I had so many other songs I wanted to include on here, but I just couldn’t bear to break it down into what I wanted it for. I love many other songs that I think would be great on this album, including Let me Blow Ya Mind by Eve and Gwen Stefani(ack, I am starting to like rap), Criminal by Fiona Apple(the ultimate angry chick), Outside by Staind (a mad love ballad how much better can it get?), Bif Naked’s Moment of Weakness (sorry this woman rocks!), the list goes on and on!
