As much as I wander around, I have trouble keeping track of things. Things like birthdays and physical addresses. When I stumbled upon Blue Mountain one day, it seemed like the perfect solution.
What they are is an email greeting card company. I mean, yeah you can design cards to print out and physically send snail-mail if you prefer, but umm.. why? Yeah, I know, some folks are stable and like to save things. Me, I've learned to travel light. E-cards suit me much better.
The site is pleasant enough in varying shades of blue and some cute graphics. It isn't overly complicated and what I want is usually very easy to find. You can browse through their cards by occasion, printable cards, add to your own alerts & settings... let me digress a minute....
One thing that hooked me in is that you can input pertinent dates and corresponding email addresses and the site will email you to let you know an event is coming up so you don't forget to send a card. This is awesome. But... when I want to add to it or adjust something, it's sometimes hard to find that feature if you don't remember to go to the main page. In other words, I can be looking at a card or something and remember that I wanted to add so-n-so to my lists. Umm. No link to do that. Yeah. NOW I know to click to the main page, but at first I didn't and was pulling my hair out to try to figure out how to get in and edit that feature. Not good. Would one itty bitty additional tab at the top or bottom of each page hurt? I mean really... I'm not the only bLoNdE out here yanno...
So. Having gotten that gripe out of the way, let me say that they are right on time with all the alerts. I have it set to let me know 2 weeks in advance and again on the day of. They've not missed one in about 7 months of use. I can even go from the first alert straight into cards and pick one to be sent on the proper date. Again, no late or missing cards. They have 100% success rate on that score.
Time for another gripe. The selection of cards kinda sucks. Well, it does. They're slightly juvenile looking and simple. There are some cute ones and some very funny ones, but for the most part they have a very ordinary and boring selection. That would be ok, too, if it weren't for....
..They charge you to use this service. It ain't expensive, but it ain't free either. I think I paid around $15 for a year. It isn't going to break the bank by any means, but if they're charging fees then they could come up with some more original cards, right?
So ok. I'm going with a mediocre 3 stars for Blue Mountain. I don't hate them. I mean, I use them all the time.. but there's jut a few nitpicks that really bug me (as referenced above). Go ahead, but if you aren't as lazy as me you can probably dig up a better e-card site out there with the same features but more original & funny cards.
