A million different things.Sep 03 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line You have Nassau, or you have the family islands. Nassau, you can plan ahead. Family Island, do what you want. I'm a Bahamian, but I am at college at the moment. So, not only do I have the gift of knowing a lot about the Bahamas, but I view it as a vacation spot and not home right now. There are many different things you can do. Nassau is definitely one of them, no matter how many people try to discourage it. Best hotel to stay at is definitely Atlantis, but I think we all knew that. Of course, if you can't afford that (which most of us probably can't), check out Comfort Suites, it's just across the road, much cheaper and you get to go into Atlantis anyway. Basically, the lodging is just not as nice (and Atlantis has some SWEET lodging). Don't gamble, don't get drunk, don't go clubbing. You can do all of these at home, except you lose more money, hang out with people who get even more wasted and risk the chance of dancing with someone you don't want to dance with, and I mean DON'T want to dance with. Hit Atlantis 1 or 2 days Hit the straw market some day Go on a fishing/sailing/boat associated trip someday Watch the show at Atlantis one day. Just a few suggestions. For food, there are a few places I highly encourage. Marketplace, Johnny Canoe's, Poop Deck and Murray's. Check out Anthony's bar and grill as well, although they've gotten progressively worse. For night activities, just hang around, chill out, sit out on the beach, relax. The daytime is really the fun time in the Bahamas, unless of course you're a drunkard or a clubber, in which case, hit Waterloo, or the Zoo (although the Zoo pretty much sucks). Getting off of Nassau, let's move to Eleuthera. This is an island where there is really nothing to do except go to the beach, although I'll let you in on a few secrets. Take a tour of a citrus farm, go to Preacher's cave. Go to Hatched Bay Cave. Don't stay at a hotel if you can avoid it. See if you can find someone who has a house/apartments they'll rent out. Oh, and check out Glass Windows Bridge. Visit Spanish wells if you want to see how odd the Bahamas is (a 5 minute ferry from Eleuthera). Exuma: Good fishing, good beaches. Pretty much covered in the other itenerary. Pretty much all the other family islands follow the patern of Exuma. I'd say just find somewhere to stay, don't make any plans and see what happens. Things flow very freely in the Bahamas, and you almost never have to schedule way in advance. Islands to check out: Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros (if you want to go WAY deserted), Inagua (if you want a long boat ride), San Salvador or Long Island (great place). |
