You’re Just Like A Sister to Me, Poems celebrating the special friendships that women share, is another of Blue Mountain Arts (SPS Studios) gift anthologies that I have enjoyed reading as much as I have sharing my own personal poetry through. The poems are, needless to say, intended to be shared from woman to woman as a reflective journey through the hearts and souls of those special relationships women come upon with other women. The women that make us feel understand. The women we empathize with and create a connection, a bond of honesty, reassurance and acceptance.
These poems are meant for women who want to give a compassionate and appreciative thank you to the other women in their lives... their sisters, or those friends that feel like their sisters, their best friends and confidants, the ones who inspire them or have given them hope when they were feeling hopeless. Friend to friend... women share something that few men share in their bonding experiences. Women share their hearts... the truths and the answers, their ideas and dreams, their hopes and fantasies, all of those little things that only another woman could truly appreciate or relate to.
This anthology begins with ... “I know that throughout my life... wherever I am... I will always remember so well... and cherish our friendship... as one of the best... I have every known”... Susan Polis Schutz, the lady who (with her husband’s creativity at illustrating) created the company that is now a major supplier of greeting cards, anthologies, calendars and related inspirational paraphernalia. This anthology has been edited by Patricia Wayant and the ©1998 by Stephen Schutz and Susan Polis Schutz. ©1998 by SPS Studios, Inc. The book is printed on recycled paper and illustrated throughout with watercolor like designs that are soft, yet colorful.
You’re Just Like A Sister To Me is written in the same style (FREE VERSE) as many of the other Blue Mountain Anthologies are written. The poetry is free verse authored by numerous individuals who attempt to truly bare their souls through the written word. The poems are inspirational, encouraging and healing. As with all of Blue Mountain Arts poetry, these poems are exceptionally displayed in a beautiful font on stylish, thick bound paper. The illustrations are soft and soothing, providing gentle company for the poetry.
As a sampling... A poem entitled, “Our Friendship Is Very Important To Me... by Caroline E. Bryant” begins...
“From the first day we met,
I knew that I could trust you...
I’ve shared with you my...
Secret hopes and dreams,
And you’ve listened while...
Understanding and encouraging me...
To pursue them....”
The poem continues with several more verses and is only one among the many touching poems that are intended to inspire, encourage, heal, fulfill and simply share the sentiments that so many feel, yet are incapable of always expressing in words.
