The Bottom Line It's all about starting education and safety training early. Teach your children well. Guns are not weapons, but sporting accessories. Respect for life (human and other) will make the difference

My son is 3 and very intelligent. He picks up things that most 5 year olds would say "Huh?"

So the other day, I see him pointing a stick at me and screaming "Poom!"

"Frank, what are you doing?"

"It's a Poom thing?"

"A Poom thing? What's it do?"

"It makes you dead. Poom! Poom!"

So I took the stick from him and broke it in half. I threw it into the woods, and said "C'mere!". By now, he know's he's done something wrong.

"Poom things are not toys! They could hurt people. Do you want me to be dead?"

"No."

"Then you never point a poom thing at anyone. Ok?!"

"Ok."

I'm not an anti-gun or anti-violence person. I merely want to point out to my son that guns are not toys and that shooting (most) people is wrong. We have no guns in my house, but I know that he will be exposed to guns as he gets older. I was, and my Uncle would always makes sure it was done safely.

Bottom line: It's all about starting education and safety training early. If you teach your children well, guns are not weapons, but sporting accessories.

Respect for life (human and other) will make the difference.
