Pros: Super handy! Easy to use, lightweight, really picks up surace debris!
Cons: Disposable refills have to be replace frequently. Not a replacement for vacuuming (of course!)
The Bottom Line: The Swiffer CarpetFlick is definitely worth having and worth using between vacuumings. I suppose it's not a necessary cleaning product, but it certainly is a handy one.

| elainehn's Full Review: The Swiffer CarpetFlick |
Oh my gosh! I don't even know how to begin this review except to RAVE about how fantastic this product is! I love it! (So, why? oh why? has it taken me 2 months to get around to reviewing it?!?! Would you believe because I've been spending ALL my time Swiffering carpet? Nahh ... probably not.)
I was so prepared to be disappointed by this gadget ... well not even really disappointed because that would imply that I had expectations which weren't met. I really didn't have any expectations except that this was probably another gimmicky cleaning device that I really didn't need. Can I tell you how WRONG I was? I was WRONG! The Swiffer CarpetFlick isn't just another gadget to take up space and cause us to buy more unnecessary refill pads. It's actually a USEFUL, EASY, HELPFUL tool for quick carpet cleaning between vacuuming. Seriously!
When I first got the kit ... THANK YOU! MS&L Co. for sending this to me in exchange for my unbiased review ... I sat on the sofa and put it together quickly and with little need for instructions. I don't think there were actually many instructions, just graphics with a line or two about attaching the handle and inserting the sticky cleaning pad.
I immediately cleaned our den carpet. Oh WOW!!! Were my eye's deceiving me? No! This little gem of a CarpetFlick was actually picking up a ton of little debris and bits and pieces of whatever my family and I had managed to track through our den since my last vacuuming a day or so before. Wow! Oh Wow! Oh Wow!
You have to understand our den is kind of like the Grand Central Station of our house. The side door opens onto a walkway from our driveway, a back door opens onto a patio on the back of our house. On the third wall there is a large archway that opens into our kitchen and leads to the rest of the house. There is only one wall in this room that doesn't have a door! Whether it's hubby (or me) tracking in little bits of leaves or grass as we walk from our cars, or the kids stomping through from playing in the back yard, or our cats tracking goodness knows what ... the floor rarely stays clean more than a day when I do vacuum. In addition to all the traffic flow, this room also houses our wood burning stove, thus lots of firewood debris in cold weather ... our cats dishes near the back door ... and their litter box in the opposite corner (yes, it's a big room!) This room truly needs vacuuming every single day. But as a busy mom, with busy kids, and a hubby who wouldn't touch a vacuum if it would save my life ... I usually only manage to vacuum the den two or three times a week.
I'm not a perfectionist, but I can't tell you how many times I've sat down after cooking dinner and cleaning the kitchen and absolutely could not relax and watch TV or read, till I got up and got out the vacuum and cleaned the den floor! Now with the Swiffer CarpetFlick I can quickly and easily run it around the den to pick up the 'worst' of the mess and put off vacuuming for at least a day or two.
Our den has flat carpet, much like what you'd see in many commercial buildings and industrial setting. But I've also used the Swiffer CarpetFlick in our living room, stairway, and hall ... all of which have the more traditional residential 'pile' type carpet and it seems to work fine for those areas too.
The pads really are STICKY and they do hold the debris, but if the entire sticky surface gets covered then stuff can fall out if you lift or angle the unit. I can usually use one pad for a few different touch ups, but if I've let things get really bad and I'm going over the entire room, I pretty much use a pad for the den, scoot around the other rooms/stairs, etc. and then toss it. Just like the commercials say
tiny debris (dust, cat hair, glitter
) sticks to the bottom of the pad while larger debris (grass clippings, leaf crumblies
) are flicked up into the top side of the unit. They may stick to the top of the pad, or they may just rest in the compartment till emptied.
P.S. I seem to have left out some details that some readers, who know absolutely nothing about the CarpetFlick may find useful ... it is ORANGE, the handle is about 4' tall, the base unit is maybe around 8"x9", I have no idea what it weighs, it's light. It does not have rollers, it glides. It is not for use on hardwood floors or tile and I would think any trapped debris might scratch a hard floor if you tried, but I'm not certain. There are no batteries, no motor. The CarpetFlick retails for about $12 around here ... refill packs are $4.99. I've seen coupons in the Sunday paper. (better? *lol*)
