Returning from what??

Written: Nov 03 '05
Pros:Good Snowboarders, Funny!
Cons:Some bad music selections
The Bottom Line: Here's the facts, you know we power to the max...

One of the more interesting snowboard crews in the world is the Canadien/American group named the Wildcats. The Wildcats are located in Whistler, BC in Canada and are known mainly for being backcountry specialists, riders who don't normally film their shots in resorts. Besides their very deep snowboarding talent, the crew is known for is off-hill habits.

In the long standing tradition, most of the members of the Wildcats like to consume beer, and the results are often hilarious. Note: Not recommended for children under 17 (excessive swearing).

Featuring: Kale Stephens, Chris Brown, Chris Dufficy, Dave Cashen, JF Pelchat, Pete Andersen, Gaetan Chanut, Paavo Tikkanen, Joni Malmi, Max Jenke, Bjorn Leines, Jacob McIntyre, Dionne Dalesalle, and Devun Walsh.
Friends: Trevor Andrew, Ian Bolton, Daryl Trinidad, Kevin Sansalone, Jeremy Jones, DCP, Jon Coleman, Lucas Huffman, Craig Ballentyne, Alex Auchu, Joel Mahaffey, Jon Roth, Kris Wilson, Marc Frank Montoya, Tadashi Fuse, Shawn Durst, Spencer Forbes, and Mikey LeBlanc.

Whoa, that’s quite a list. This is the first film by "Wildcat Films" so it has some really good moments and some really bad moments as well. A lot of the riders in this film had been and continued filming with other producers such as Mack Dawg Productions, so of the sequences can be seen in other movies, but different camera angles and extra stuff makes it fresh. Some of the soundtrack selections are very questionable and make it hard to watch, but some are equally as good and make for fun watching. The movie itself runs for about 30 minutes, but then my favorite part comes up. 15 minutes of bonus material, humiliating party footage, and everyday funny moments are tacked on at the end.

The Wildcats are mainly known for their backcountry shreding, but all other aspects of snowboarding are also here, just in a smaller scale than other movies. Guys like Paavo Tikkanen do a little bit of jibbing for people who enjoy seeing rail slides. Also mixed into the footage is tricks off park jumps.

The first three segments are very strong and vary from each other. Kale Stephens, Chris Brown, and Chris Dufficy all produce powerhouse sections. The musically selections for Chris Brown and Chris Dufficy are a little strange, but it sounds okay and fits with the persons personality. Kale Stephens has some of the best footage, landing two cab 900's and other various technical tricks worthy of the opening part.

After friends section #1, are two of the stranger segments I have ever seen. The first one is Dave Cashen also known as 2six the rapper. He is not quite as talented as other Wildcats, but raps for his soundtrack and delivers a decent part. Next is JF Pelchat, Pete Andersen, and Gaetan Chanut, with a song that is almost unbearable for a little while until you get used to it.

The variation in this movie is incredible, as the next three all have their own identity. The next one is called Euro Gap with Joni Malmi and Paavo Tikkanen in it. I have never really been a big Joni Malmi fan, but this one isn't too bad from him. Next is Max Jenke whom I had never heard of before watching this film. He has a little bit of a redemption feel to his segment. Bjorn Leines is one of my favorite and one of the best snowboarders in the world, but he mainly rides halfpipe in this part. Also in is Jacob McIntyre who is kind of in charge of the Wildcats operation, but shows he can snowboard well.

After friends section #2, are the final two parts. Dionnne Delesalle is now one of my favorite snowboarders. His part has good snowboarding and even some big cliff jumps into water. The music selection is right on, too. Devun Walsh is one of the best known and most talented snowboarders in the group. His section is really long, but he has great style and the music is good.

Even through the snowboarding level is a little bit below other filming crews, this movie more than makes up for it in watch ability and humor.
