I've Always Been a Gateway Fan...

  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Wonderful case design, blazingly fast, good framerates on 3D games.
Cons:Slightly expensive, no CD-RW (should get one for price), no NIC
The Bottom Line: Any person who upgrades his computer often will love the inside of the case. Besides that, if you have the money, this is a good home machine.

... and after purchasing this computer, I still am. Why? - you may ask... simple.
First off, this computer came with wonderful instructions and even illustrations. Most users do not need these, but I can see how they would be worth their weight in gold to any new user.
Secondly, Gateway never cheaps out on their software. This computer came loaded with some essentials (MS Works Suite 2001 and Norton AntiVirus 2000 start). No computer I have ever purchased from them came "bare." I like this since I can start enjoying my purchase right out of the box.
Thirdly, Gateway monitors are wonderful. Although I am sure they do not actually make them, I have never been disappointed by a monitor / LCD. The 19" EV910 that came with this computer is no exception... colors were clear, rich, and detailed even at 1280 x 1024.
Also, it is important to note that system is fast. Make sure your shoes are tied when you set this system up - if they aren't, it'll blow 'em off. It seems unusually fast for a 1.2 Athlon... some of the speed may be accounted to the 64MB DDR SDRAM video card.

A couple bad points-
Gateway tends to cheap out on "necessities" sometimes with their upper-range computers. I was sad to see I had no NIC nor CD-RW drive... although I will get by fine with my 16x DVD. These two options are not expensive to add, but I think they should be included for the price I paid.
Also, Gateway should make 256MB the standard for WinME upper-price range machines... this was the first upgrade I did. The case is wonderful to work in though!
