| toledobender's Full Review: Canon CanoScan 8400F Film Scanner (35 mm), Flatbed... |
I'm not expert at this scanning business, so you won't get a lot of technical mumbo jumbo here. (I'm not denigrating the advice of you techno-geeks out there. I place great stock in your reviews, I just can't provide comparable advice.) I bought a Canon 8400F based on a number of internet reviews and couldn't be happier. I bought it primarily for the purpose of scanning some very old photographs I obtained from my old Cajun grandparents and also to scan some receipts of theirs from the late 1800's. The scanner performed superbly and I got high quality copies that far exceeded my expectations - especially in view of my lack of talent for this type of thing.
I went along merrily scanning all manner of things, even some old slides and all produced excellent results. Then one day (only about three months after I purchased it) I plugged the scanner in and turned it on and absolutely nothing happened. No power, no lights, no nothing. I checked everything. I changed wall plugs, reinstalled the software, and nada. So in desperation I called Canon service. And believe it or not, I very quickly was speaking to a real person. After listening to my explanation of the problem, the technician had me do a couple of things that didn't work. Then he told me Canon would be sending me a completely new scanner and that it would be shipped the following day. I was instructed to simple unpack the new scanner and place the old one in the postage paid box and return it to Canon. No argument, no hassles, no delays. Less than a week later my new scanner arrived. I promptly returned the old scanner and am now back to scanning as happily and successfully as before.
I simply can't say enough about Canon's service. Maybe Canon's response is just good PR to get me to buy more Canon products in the future. If that is the case it worked.
