| snyderj's Full Review: Shredder Essentials 15 Sheet Cross Cut Paper &Me... |
I didn't spend much time looking for just the right shredder. I found this one on closeout at Home Depot (Nov 2005) for a steal at $12.47 (half price).
[Update Dec 14, 2005: Though it says not to, I have shredded three credit cards through this unit without problem. I wouldn't recommend it as a daily action but occasional should be fine. Don't blame me if it breaks on you, though :) ]
The size is quite small, being 11"W x 14"H x 6"D. It only shreds paper (not credit cards, for example). Staples are OK. According to manual, the maximum continuous use is two minutes, then it automatically turns off, and you must wait up to 45 minutes for overload circuit to reset. Warranty period is one year. Web site is http://www.shredderessentials.com/ (but not available at the time of this writing).
This shredder uses a diamond cut (supposed to be better than confetti), and takes six sheets of standard 8-1/2" wide paper. Six sheets is the most I would recommend -- any more and it will gum up the machinery with compressed paper shreds. I think four or five sheets would be optimum.
