I just bought this vacuum cleaner today after reading the reviews of others on this website. I am blown away by how much better it works than my previous vacuum cleaner, a Dirt Devil. We have two dogs in the house, a lab and a chow/golden retriever mix, and needless to say they shed constantly. Our old vacuum would constantly clog on pet hair and usually would leave much of it behind. I finally got fed up and bought the Eureka after researching vacuums on the Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping websites. I considered the Hoover Savvy also but did not feel that the difference in price ($199.99, also at Wal-Mart) was worth the differences in features. I got the Eureka for $138.88 at my local Wal-Mart in the Denver area, so I am not sure why other people have posted that it is hard to find - maybe regional differences? Anyway, we ran it immediately when we got home and filled a bag up with dog hair and dust even though we just ran the old vaccuum yesterday - it was disgusting, but reassuring as to the suction power of the Eureka.
Pros - 1) Very strong suction. I got down on my hands and knees after running it and did not see a single dog hair on the carpet at all. 2) Like others have said, it does seem to be self-propelled because the suction is so strong. This makes it easier to run than my old vacuum. 3) The brush roller really lifts up the carpet, even in worn places. 4) I did not notice the "dusty" smell that I would notice with the old vacuum, so I am assuming this means the HEPA filter is working well. 5) Easy to assemble. I am "mechanically challenged" and had this vacuum put together and running in less than 10 minutes.
Cons - 1) It IS heavy. But I definitely think the power of the vacuum makes it worth it. It is only slightly heavier than my former Dirt Devil upright and as you can see from the examples above, that vacuum didn't have nearly the power of this new one. I am 5'6 and weigh about 120 and did not have any trouble with it. I honestly think anyone who has posted gripes on here about the weight probably has unrealistic expectations about a vacuum of this price. If you want a lighter vacuum with this amount of cleaning power, spend another $300 and get a Dyson.
That's it! This is a great vacuum cleaner for the price.
