Pros: Brutal exotic car acceleration, handles very well with the IRS.
Cons: Doesn't look fast inside or out. Mach 460 radio sounds terrible.
The Bottom Line: Most HP per dollar and very cheap and easy to get over 500HP.

| chicagomike26's Full Review: 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra |
I just wanted to address the complaints in this review that were posted:
1. "Really cheap carpeting, no floor mats either"
Floor mats are a dealer option. My Cobra and all others that I know of had them, unless you specifically didn't want them.
2. Aweful interior. Very cheap 1980s look and build quality
I agree, the interior is outdated and not exciting to look at.
3. Leather quality is poor
The leather bolsters can wear if you slide in and out, the seating material is a suede-type material that cleans very easily.
4. Post antenna is an eyesore
It unscrews and there are many aftermarket stubby antennas.
5. Engine is very noisy.
Modular 4.6L 32-valve V8 supercharged 390HP, it makes noise - particularly injector ticking.
6. Very audible engine ticking and clanking
Injector noise and all the other things spinning in the motor. There is a tick that is loud that a TSB was issued for years ago to replace the drivers side engine head.
7. Transmission gear noise. Thumping sounds when shifting.
Normal for T56 since the transmission is mounted right below the driver and passenger. Thumping sounds are from releasing the clutch to early. To not thump, hold the clutch in for 1-2 extra seconds and release, or rev match.
8. Shifter is rubbery, and hard to find 3rd gear
Stock ford shifter is junk, there are plenty of aftermarket options that exceed the quality of the Ford junk. This is the first thing that should be changed on the car when you buy it.
9. A good seating position relative to the shifter and steering is impossible to find
If you are tall, yes. If you are 6'0 or taller you need seat rail extenders.
10. Body panels do not line up at all
True, varies from car to car. Typical of Ford.
11. Seating is below acceptable
Seats are great, you have to mess with the air bladder settings and all the other power settings.
12. Lots of body roll. When you drive it, it feels like it is going to tip over, but it does manage turns good regardless.
I don't notice any body roll. I have aftermarket tires though. Suspect the stock F1 tires (junk).
13. Traction control doesn't work well, stalls out the car and causes wheel hop
Traction control only actually works in the rain. Disable it when driving in the dry weather. Stall out is a Ford TSB fix - it was a computer problem. New computer flash resolves stall issue. Wheel hop is caused from cold tires and/or poor tires (stock F1) independent rear suspension too much foot on the gas. If you don't let off the gas when it begins to hop, you break something because this car has so much violent power.
14. Very antiquated headlamp technology.
Aftermarket HID kits and bulbs available.
15. Have to bolt a license plate frame onto front, since bumper doesn't have it built in.
Most cars are like this as far as I've known.
16. Exhaust note does not sound aggressive enough.
Because of noise restrictions. Many aftermarket exhaust options available.
17. Rubber instead of polyurethane in much of the suspension
Manual hood prop
They sell aftermarket bushings and hood struts. The rubber bushings were used to make the ride smoother and more comfortable, and the manual hood prop was just a cost issue like many other little items to keep the price low for a 390HP/390TQ car!
The only thing that I really dislike about this car is the stock Mach 460 stereo. It produces little to no bass and distorts the front speakers at loud volume.
