For years I relied on Conair to style my hair. I’m not one to spend time architecting my tresses into time-consuming styles. I want to wash my hair and dry/style it as quickly as possible. The Conair 1 1/2" Hot Air Curling Combo is my hair-styling instrument of choice.
Description
The Conair Combo comes packaged in a clear plastic blisterpack. It contains a wand with a 6-foot long electrical cord. There are two attachments that fit onto the wand. One attachment is a curling iron, and the other is a brush with vents that allow hot hair through to the hair.
The wand acts as the handle and is 8" long with a slide control that offers three settings: Off, Lo and Hi. The curling iron attachment is 6" long and has a large thumb latch to open and close the curling iron clamp. The brush attachment is also 6" long and has ten lines of stiff plastic combs, that when combined, form a brush. Between the “combs” are vents that feed hot air through the brush. Both attachments have a broad plastic “cool tip” in a green color.
The cord doesn’t tangle either since it swivels at the base of the wand. If you travel, this unit also has dual voltage and a test/reset button.
My Experiences
I had to purchased this Conair Combo when I saw it two years ago. I owned two preceding models of this hair styler that had the brush attachment without the curling iron. The first one survived about ten years before it started losing some of the plastic teeth that formed the brush. The second one is still going strong at six years old and goes with me on travels. This newest unit is a twist on the old tried-and-true Conair that I love.
A bit about my hair. My straight hair is short, falling just below my ears. It is cut so that the hair curls under at the ends (when it behaves, which is what this hot air brush is for). I also have bangs.
Since my hair is short, I do not need the curling iron. I bought this Conair Combo for the brush attachment since I loved my other Conair hot air styling brushes so much and could no longer find them.
The wand is easy to hold, and the on/off switch simple to maneuver with the thumb. I like it that the long cord allows me room for movement. However, when using the hot air brush at the bathroom sink, I find the cord tends to knock things over on the counter.
The bottom of the wand has a small plastic bar that acts as a built-in safety rest. With the brush attachment affixed to the wand, the bar is too shallow to rest on a flat surface. The brush is deeper than the plastic bar, and the brush lays on the surface actually lifting the safety rest a bit in the air. I lean the safety rest against the raised sink edge, which solves the problem.
The hot air brush attachment beautifully styles my hair. First, I partially blow dry my hair and then use this Conair styler to finish the job. By lifting the hair upward with the brush, the hot air and brush action make my hair fuller. I use the brush as I would a curling iron, curling my hair under as it dries. The brush is wide enough to create a smooth curve in my hair. This is the only styling aid I’ve found that does the job well.
Purchasing
I bought the Conair Combo at my local CVS store. It regularly sold for $29.99, and I bought it on sale. Amazon.com sells this for $17.99.
Summary
I love the Conair 1 1/2" Hot Air Curling Combo. I hope Conair keeps making this style of hot air brush. It’s done a terrific job on my hair for years.
