| Saxguy's Full Review: Logitech Marble Mouse Optical Trackball (LTMB) |
I purchased a refurbished version of the Logitech marble Optical Trackball Mouse about a year ago on Ebay.
I strongly prefer trackballs because the mouse doesnt move from its spot. Web navigation is done through rolling the ball (the marble) around and using the two buttons when clicks are necessary. There are many advantages:
1. Less space on the computer desk devoted to the mouse.
2. More accurate surfing with a trackball. Ive had trouble with mice when they got worn, hence requiring more emphatic movements on the mouse pad to surf around.
3. Still more accurate surfing with an optical trackball, which are supposed to be more precise and longer lasting.
I read on a web site that one of the advantages of optical trackballs is that they will still work, even after being submerged in liquids. The ones cited were water, coffee and beer. While I have spilled none of those on the trackball, I do snack at the keyboard, so thats good to know.
These are billed as no-maintenance because the sensor technology is optical, but I still need to take the ball out every once in a while and vacuum the dust (err
food particles) from inside the receptacle.
The mouse itself has a curved design. My hand fits comfortably over it. It has buttons placed on each side of the mouse. Please see the picture, as it is an accurate depiction.
Installation was very simple. The unit came with a Logitech mouseware CD, with user configurable options such as (among others):
- Fast or slow double-click speed
- Turn-on click lock (for automatic scrolling)
- Many options for the various pointers and icons associated with scrolling. Most are embedded in Windows. I chose Windows default.
- Pointer speed
- Snap-to (automatically moves the pointer to a default button in a dialogue box)
And some others. I went mostly with the vanilla (standard options) but Ive tried some different ones on occasion.
After nearly a year, I can say that this is reliable and works well. I bought it refurbished on Ebay for $19.99 from a vendor with solid feedback. Now, I understand that they are selling for $8.95 in like new condition. I recommend it highly. There is no need to pay more.
Thanks for reading. God bless!
