I can not believe this scam is still running! My experience with Perfect Shareware dates back several years. I was not gullible enough to actually use the service or reveal my credit card number to an obvious fraud artist (and for those of you who have done so, I recommend you contact your card issuer ASAP to have your account closed and re-opened with a new number), but at that time the perpetrator of the Perfect Shareware scam did his best to ruin several graphics, photography, and forsale newsgroups with an endless stream of spam. Then when regulars of those groups began replying to the spam with warnings, the perpetrator escalated matters by issuing threats, signing people up for unwanted spam email on their private accounts, and other such tactics.
This was all years ago and yet here I am on epinions, where I note with dismay that not only is epinions allowing an illegal service to be listed here, but there are recent reviews for Perfect Shareware indicating the service is still functioning. It's also fairly obvious that all the positive reviews were posted by sock puppets - fictitious user IDs created solely to "praise" Perfect Shareware.
So who is the perpetrator behind Perfect Shareware, and how can the reader verify the above information for themselves? Simple - do a Google search on "perfect shareware". Also be sure to search the Google Groups to see just how much usenet pollution this person caused back in his prime. For even more fun, Google on the name of the perpetrator - endless hours of entertainment.
In fact, the man behind Perfect Shareware is so notorious, so loathed by the usenet community, that he even has a newsgroup named after him ... now that's some kinda famous.
