The Bottom Line Only go to established sites with verified information - other sites may have false, misleading and even harmful information.

I'm not in New York or Washington D.C., and I didn't get stuck in an airport anywhere. I was scheduled to be on a flight to San Diego Tuesday with my 1 year old son. We were going to travel from Seattle to San Diego for my grandmother's funeral. I thank God our flight wasn't scheduled for a few hours earlier.

There are thousands of sites with information about these tragedies. Many of these have information that is, at best, rumor and there's some things I've seen that appear to actually be published to cause distress. For your own piece of mind, don't just search around and go to any site you can find. Go to trusted sites that will only post verified information.

NOTE - Some of the pages I referenced cause epinions to tell me there was a word that was too long! I've had to put spaces into these URLs and I've noted this below - you'll need to copy, paste into your browser and then delete the spaces.

While not directly about information concerning loved ones, if you have any actual information about the attack or the terrorists, visit the FBI's Internet Fraud Complaint Center at https://www.ifccfbi.gov/complaint/terrorist.asp.

The first place to look is http://www.ny.com/wtclist.html This is the World Trade Center Survivor Database, updated every 15 minutes. So far there are over 20000 entries in this list, sorted alphabetically by last name. It appears that there is a significant effort made to ensure that this list is verified and updated. Nevertheless, it's evident that there are fraudulent entries on this list. Since this is a list of survivors, rather than those killed, it's less likely to have information that is intentionally meant to provoke distress.

To directly find out about those who were killed both on the ground and in the aircraft, a "Partial List of Attack Victims" as of September 13 - (URL has a space that needs to be removed) http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010913/us/attacks_victims_list.html

Yahoo's site appears to be more complete and detailed than the similar site on CNN -
http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/12/victims.list.ap/

Additionally, Yahoo has a well done page of Hotline phone numbers to check on people who worked for particular companies at the World Trade Center -
http://us.news2.yimg.com/f/42/31/7m/dailynews.yahoo.com/ h/ap/20010912/us/attacks_tenant_hot_lines_2.html

Victims of the attack, direct and indirect, can find help on the FEMA site -
http://www.fema.gov/diz01/d1391n05.htm

The Department of Defense has information to help families who have been affected by this tragedy as well -
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Sep2001/p09122001_p177-01.html

There are many other sites and I will try to update this list as I have a chance to review them.

If you are looking for ways to help those who have been hurt by this tragedy, again, there are any number of ways to help. You can give blood (be sure to check with your local blood bank to see if they have room to take you in). You can also donate money at many different sites. I would like to encourage you to visit
http://welcome.worldvision.org/amrelief.htm
WorldVision is a 50 year old Christian relief organization. Here, you can make donations to help with material relief, but more importantly, your donations will also help provide spiritual and emotional support for victims, their families and the millions who have been devestated by these attacks. In the coming days, the spiritual dimension may be at least as important as the physical/material.
