The Bottom Line Besides giving a great concert, Third Eye Blind, gave the concert for free requesting only donations to the American Red Cross.
8:00 PM, Wednesday September 12, 2001, Third Eye Blind came to my area, playing at the Tulare County Fair, in Tulare, California. My wife is a big fan so she purchased 8 tickets, at thirty dollars a piece for us and friends. On September 11, tragedy struck the United States in New York City and much of the country's entertainment was postponed or canceled. We were unsure if Third Eye would play so we called the ticket master the morning of the concert. Fortunately, Third Eye Blind was in San Francisco and drove down for the concert. But there is more to say, much more... Third Eye Blind was greatly saddened by the tragic events in the northeast and decided to do the concert for free with the option of giving your ticket proceeds to the Red Cross, or a full reimbursement. Of course, I was elated about this, since I spent 240 dollars on the tickets. I selfishly had planned to get most of my money back, however, following the concert, my wife and I, and most of the concert goers, gave the tickets to the Red Cross. To start the concert, lead singer Stephen Jenkins, talked a little about the week's events. He gave a moment of silence and then gave us the show. Just following their song, Semi Charmed Life, Stephen said,"Thank you for coming," and the band left the stage. Moments later, the audience chanted "USA USA USA USA...." and the band returned for an encore performance.. Stephen had heard the chants and commented. He said," it is good for you to believe in your country. Just remember, it is the USA.. That means all of us, you and I. And that includes Muslim Americans. I understand the anger that may be present, but there are Muslim Americans whom love this country as much as the rest of us. Just remember that, and please don't be f.ckin with our Muslim brothers.." The crowd went wild! Besides giving a great show, I admired this band for having the courage to do and say what they did. It actually surprised me that he said what he did. I would have thought a band like this would have stayed neutral with brief thoughts about the loss. But he came right out, and all bullsh.t aside, basically stated that this is my country that I love. It is here in the US that we are free. Free to express, free to sing, free to rebel and free to make change. Even amidst government corruption, that exists even in this country, you need to stand strong, fighting for the country that allows so much. So I give this band two thumbs up.. I know this review wasn't much on their performance but I was completely satisfied from beginning to end. The band was lively, sounded good, and was very cool with the crowd. |
