Some Country Songs to Help You HealSep 13 '01 (Updated Sep 14 '01) Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line All of these songs have touched me enough to share them with you. I hope they can help you. In Light of the tragedy in NYC, Washington and Pittsburgh, I think it's appropriate for me to take a minute and list some great songs that deal with healing. Country music, like Christian/religious music, has always been great at releasing great songs that can help people grieve and heal. In No Particular Order 1. How Can I Help You Say Goodbye by Patty Loveless on her Only What I Feel CD the chorus says it all in this Karen Taylor-Good/Burton Banks-Collins composition; how can I help you say goodbye, It's Ok to hurt, it's ok to cry, come let me hold you and I will try, how can I help you say goodbye 2. Over My Shoulder another Patty Loveless song written by Marcus Hummon/Roger Murrah from her When Fallen Angels Fly CD here's a piece of this beautiful song over my shoulder, my heart expects to see your runnin' after me, over my shoulder, there's a coat you used to wrap me in to keep me war, to keep me near, though the clouds still hang around me, like my stormy love for you, the rain is falling softer now, the sun is breakin' through, over my shoulder, I see a rainbow, it's heaven's way of saying I can let you go, and tomorrow morning, I'll be one day older and you will be a memory, one last look, over my shoulder 3Wish You Were Here From Mark Wills CD by the same title. the chorus: wish you were here, wish you could see this place, wish you were near wish I could touch your face, the weather's nice it paradise, summer time all year, there's some folks you know, they say they miss you so, wish you were here. (This song centers around a plane crash)Written by Skip Ewing/Bill Anderson/Donnie More. 4.One More Day Performed by Diamond Rio. This Steven Dale Jones/Bobby Tomberlin composition was a number one for the group and is on their CD of the same title. One more day, one more time, one more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied, but then again, I know what it would do, leave me wishing still for one more day with you 5. Holes In The Floor Of Heaven Written(wBilly Kirsch) and recorded by Steve Wariner on his Burnin' The Roadhouse Down CD. Steve Wariner's comeback song this song spent weeks on the charts and became his biggest hit ever. an excirpt seasons come and seasons go, nothing stays the same, I grew up, fell in love, with a girl that took my name, year by year we made a life, in this sleepy little town, I'd thought we'd grow old together, Lord, I sure do miss her now, but there's holes in the floor of Heaven, and her tears are pouring down, that's how I know she's watching, wishing she could be here now, and sometimes whin I'm lonely, I remember she can see, there's holes in the floor of Heaven, and she's watching over you and me Simply powerful stuff there. 6. Ships Of Heaven Written By Blackhawk's Van Shephenson about his battle with cancer. Sadly Van died earlier this year. Now, with the current tragedy, this song has an even more poigniant message. It's from there Greatest Hits CD the openig verse and chorus: Don't cry for me, when I'm gone, keep the faith and be strong, 'cause through it all, I've been blessed, faced my fear and passed the test,so when you look up in the sky on a sunny day, imagine me drifting away ... I'll be sailing on the ships of heaven, when the tide rolls out for the last time, you'll find me sailing on the ships of heaven, waiting for the day I come sailing back to you. 7.Even God Must Get The Blues.JoDee Messina recorded this song on her I'm Alright CD Here's a bit of the song: pick any morning paper, turn on the six o'clock news, the devil's been so busy lately, that even God must get the blues. Written by John Scott Sherrill and Dean Anton. 8.Love Remains From Collin Raye'sI Think About You CD. This Tom Douglas/Jim D'addario composition is still one of my favorite songs: Kingdoms Come and Kingdoms go, they don't last, before you know it, the future is the past, in spite of what's been lost, what's been gained, we are living proof, love remains. 9.Let It Fall written by Nickel Creek's Sean Watkins and performed by Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket) as the only vocal song on Sean Watkins's fine debut solo CD. Hey, Look, I'm not Weighed Down, As I walk through the glowing wheat fields churning on the ground, as all the ravens fly away, they leave nothing, but the sun and endless blue day, I always knew I felt this way, but couldn't find the time of day, to myself I gotta let it go, through all the joy and all the pain, with the drought and the rain, the honest thruth is I want to know, let it fall, let it go. Inspiring words from a young artist. 10. The Dance by Garth Brooks from his Greatest Hits CD and self titled CD. The Quintessential song for grieving, this is simply a classic. looking back on the memory of, the dance we shared, neath the stars above, for a moment all thw world was right, how could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye, and now, I'm glad I didn't know, the way it all would end, the way it all would go, our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I'd have to missed the dance. Written by Tony Arata 11. The Change again by Garth Brooks on his fresh horses CD. This song again is written by Tony Arata with help from Wayne Tester. One Hand reaches out, pulls a lost soul out of harm, while a thousand more go unspoken for, they ask what good have you done by saving just this one, it's like whispering a prayer, into the fury of a storm, I hear them saying, you'll never change things, no matter what you do, it's still the same thing, it's not the world i'm changing, I do this so the world we know Doesn't change Me, never changes me. released around the time of the OKC bombing, it's message still radiates even more now. 12. Tears In Heaven Written and recorded by Eric Clapton This song, in it's original form, was a country song. The version played on radio was the acoustic MTV Unplugged version. The orginal version appears on Clapton's Chronicles, the best of Eric Clapton. would you know my name if I saw you in heaven, would it be the same if I saw you in heaven, I must be strong, and carry on, cause I know, I dont' belong here in Heaven. a true classic written by Clapton after son Conner's tragic death. 13. Tears In God's Eyes performed by Ty Herndon and Patty Loveless. Written by Kent Blazy/Skip Ewing/Kim Williams. some words from the song: one man cant sleep in his penthouse bed, Wall Street worries fill his head, while another man dreams in his cardboard shead, on Broadway. Early morning traffic jam, wake up call for both of them, what to eat, thats easy street and small change, and which one needs it more the rich man or the poor a change of heart and attitude of unselfishness meets gratitude, it's enough to put tears in gods eyes, enough to make the angels cry, when the power of love lifts someone above the emptiness of their unbearble lives, it's to put tears in God's eyes. 14. Go Rest High On That Mountain Written and recorded by Vince Gill with help from Alison Krauss and Patty Loveless. From the When Love Finds You CD. A Multi award winner, this song is one of my all time favorites. a little piece of the song: I know oyur life on earth was troubled, and only you could know the pain, you were'nt afraid to face the devil, you were no stranger to the rain...Go rest high on that mountain, son, your work is done, go to Heaven a shoutin', love for the Father and Son. 15. You're Gone Recorded by Diamond Rio, this song appears on their Unbelievable CD. Written By Jon Vezner/Paul Williams. I said hello, I tihnk i'm broken, and though I was only joking, it took me by surprise when you agreed, I was trying to be cleaver, for the lif eof me, I never, Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead, you knew all my lines, you knew all my tricks, you knew how to heal that pain that medicine couldn't fix, and I thank god that I met you, and thank god that he let you, lay beside me for a moment that lives on, and the good new is I'm better for the time we spent together, and the bad news is you're gone. There Will Come A Day - Faith Hill Recorded this song from her BreatheCD. It's not easy trying to understand, how the world can be so cold, stealing the souls of man, cloudy skies rain down on all your dreams, you wrestle with the fear and doubts sometimes it's hard, but you gotta believe: Ther's another place where our Father waits, and every tear he'll wipe away, the darkness will be gone, the weak will be strong, hold on to your faith, there will come a day, there will come a day. A bit more towards the religious side but still a great track nonetheless. |
