when those planes started hitting the World Trade Centre. My parents had arrived from Canada just two days before. I had problems sleeping for days until I stopped watching the news and reading the papers.

Our accents garnered grave concern from everyone and when they discovered we were Canadian they all said,
"Ah well, you're the lucky one's then. It's safe where you come from.".
The Irish know what it's like to live with bombs.

I console myself with the fact the I'm far more likely to win the lottery than be killed in a terrorist attack (this coming from someone who lived in London when the IRA ceasefire ended in 1996 and heard Canary Wharf go bang from a mile away across the Thames).

The best response is a more focused diligence and the determination to carry on with your life (and you might want to reconsider that holiday in India or that bargain basement fare to Cairo).

It looks like you've been having a good summer so far over there - I'm jealous.

Hey Kim.

Hang in there and take care of yourself. If I've learned anything from this tragedy, it's that each day is a gift and we should recognize each opportunity to tell the people we care about how we feel. Whatever you decide to do, don't lose site of what's important to you. Good luck.

and I'm not sure what they are saying in the European news about Canadians. I know one of Canada's politicians pictures had been burned publically in some middle east country, I wish I had payed more attention at the time. Who knew this was going to happen.

I was constantly mistaken for American while travelling in Europe, they can't tell the difference between a Canadian and American accent. If you get into trouble, and you think it will help just say your Canadian, I guarantee they can't tell the difference.

Also, you know American and Canadian Embassies take citizens from both countries in emergency situations.

In the event of an emergency and you can't get to the U.S. embassy, head for the Canadian embassy, and they will take you.

I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow, but I too am scared s******.

Hope these links help:

Canadian Embassy Paris France

Govt of Canada (you can do a search for the address of the Canadian Embassy in whatever country you are in)
http://www.gc.ca/main_e.html

I can assure you if I have to travel abroad, I'll know the exact location of both embassies in whatever country I am in, and I would head for the closest one if I felt threatened in any way.

The world is with you.

As an American living abroad, I can tell you I fully feel what you are saying in this review.

Luckily for me, I live in Sweden, and the Swedish people have been very understanding and kind to me in regards to the incident.

The first thing I did however, was take down my Swedish "Välkommen" wreath on my door, and hung up an American flag with a black ribbon tied around it. I still remain proud of my nationality, and the recent events that took place has just strengthened my desire to show it.

First off, great review and I agree with what you said.

Like you, I am now afraid of returning to the U.S. I am even scared of going to university next year, considering what has happened. I was thinking of going to a college that was right next to the Pentagon and now I am seriously reconsidering going there.

I consider myself to be extremely lucky that I am here in Hong Kong, but I'm worried that something big and devastating will happen within the next few months.

Again, great review.
