A marvelous end cap to a beautiful meal and a chance to spend more heart warming time with loved ones. You use an already prepared chocolate cake in this recipe. I have found it a useful way to extend the servings I get out of a cake and it is a nice change from the same old thing. More than that though, this is a wonderful special occasion dessert for those SERIOUS chocolate lovers you know. SO! here goes: "Death By Chocolate" Chocolate Trifle Serves about 20 Base Ingredients: Prepared chocolate cake can of chocolate syrup whipped topping To make the Mousse: 2 Envelopes Unflavored Gelatin 3/4 cup boiling water 1 6 Oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips or Coffee 1 Tbsp. sugar 3/4 tsp. Vanilla 1 Cup Heavy Cream 1 heaping cup crushed ice 2 Egg Yolks Mousse: Combine gelatin & hot water in blender container. Cover, blend 30 sec. scraping down sides if necessary. Add chocolate chips, sugar, cream, egg yolks, and Vanilla. Blend until smooth, add ice, blend until ice is dissolved. Mousse could thicken immediately, set aside but not too long as it will get too thick. Layer mousse and the following ingredients with crumbled up pieces of chocolate cake: Whipped topping and Chocolate Syrup. Top with more whipped cream, you may wish to garnish with nuts or chocolate curls if desired. WARNING: this is a VERY rich desert *Grin* I hope you all enjoy this! |
