| Freak369's Full Review: Fox Forever Hooded Sweatshirt |
You might get the impression from other reviews that I am cheap. I cant blame you for thinking that; bargain hunting is one of my favorite hobbies. One thing that I wont skimp on is winter clothing. I hate having that chilled to the bone feeling so when I come across clothing that keeps me warm, the price isnt something that I am concerned with. After my great experiences with the Fox Forever Hoody Womens Sweatshirt I kept my eyes peeled for other hooded sweatshirts from Fox Racing. You can catch these on sale from time to time but to be completely honest, even when they arent on sale, they are a great thing to invest in if you want to stay warm, have something that is going to last for years and looks great no matter how many times you wash it. I have two of these [same design]; one I paid full price for and the second I got half off. It might sound foolish to drop this kind of money on a sweatshirt but all you have to do is slip this thing on and youll know that it was money well spent.
Fox Forever Hooded Sweatshirt
I really wish that the database would have a more descriptive listing of the Fox Racing items, the term Fox Forever Hooded Sweatshirt doesnt exactly give you a lot to go on. When I was picking out the sweatshirts I had my choice between the silk screened version and the one with the sewn on / raised embroidery. I went with the silk screened version because these are easier to care for, you dont have to worry about things catching on the embroidered area and they are more convertible if you fall asleep in them. Some of the sweatshirts that I have with large patches on them are a real pain if you fall asleep in them, you roll over the wrong way and its rather uncomfortable. There wasnt that much of a price difference between the two so it all came down to personal preference. If you are going to look for these online you are going to really have to read the description of them closely and if you arent sure, its better to email the seller or site first so you will know exactly what you are getting.
This is one of the basic sweatshirts from the Fox Forever line; an all black sweatshirt with the Fox Racing lettering running down both sides of the sleeves. One of the nicest things about this is the way that it is cut; generous under the arms, large hood, extra stitching, elastic around the wrists that doesnt wear out and a fleece type lining that doesnt pill or shed. Now are you starting to see why I would drop $50.00 on a sweatshirt? If that was all that this offered it would be a great deal but it is the comfort that really makes this a great investment. No matter how many times I wash it or how much wear it gets, when I pull it out of the dryer, it still looks like it is almost brand new [it has faded slightly after some 25 washes] and feels oh so comfy when I slip it on.
You can wear this with multiple layers of clothing without getting that bogged down feeling - this is mostly due to the generous cut under the sleeves and slight oversizing. I got these in extra large and they do run a little larger than most other extra large sweatshirts. When it goes below 30 degrees if I am not warm when I leave the house, it takes me forever to get warm. My usual layering technique is to wear a Under Armour Heat Gear V Neck T Shirt then a long sleeved thermal shirt then the hoody. If I get too hot I can take off the hoody and still have a few layers of clothing on. The hood on this is a little on the large side but it is great if you need to protect your ears from wind or snow. It does an excellent job of trapping in your body heat without making you feel like you are cramped into a sweatshirt or that your movement is limited.
Care & Cleaning
The first time you wash this you will want to do so with dark clothes or by itself. Since this is all black there is a chance that some of the dye could come out of it - not as bad as when you first wash demin but you dont want to ruin anything else that you have in the washer. I usually wash this in cold water unless Ive worn it to the gym and its soaked with sweat, then it goes in warm water. I dont use a liquid fabric softener most of the time so when this goes in the dryer, it goes in by itself for about ten or fifteen minutes with a dryer sheet. I never dry this all the way - it gets hung up and allowed to air dry. This keeps the silk screening from cracking or losing its color.
As I said, the body of the sweatshirt has faded a little - but faded seems too harsh a word. It still looks great but after 25 washes, you can tell that it isnt brand new but it still looks awesome. It can take up to 24 hours for this to completely dry if you hang it up after ten or fifteen minutes in the dryer but it is worth it to keep it looking great and to keep it from shrinking. Since 80% of the shirt is cotton, shrinkage is always a concern with me so having to wait a day before it is completely dry isnt a huge thing for me [thats why I got two!] Id rather have to wait for it to dry than to risk having it shrink or the lettering start to look worn. Once that happens it starts to peel and it looks pretty haggard.
Price
The suggested retail price for this is anywhere from $5.00 to $50.00. Now, sit down and relax, that might sound like a lot of money [and it is] but I would rather drop that on a few sweatshirts that are going to last for years than to buy cheaper ones that are going to pit, pill or fall apart. Yes, you are paying for the Fox Forever / Fox Racing name but thats the case with everything that has a brand name on it. I picked these up at a local motorcycle shop in San Diego before we moved and they have been something that has really helped me keep me warm. Outside of the Under Armour clothing, the Fox Forever line is one of the few clothing lines that Id ever consider spending this kind of money on but you cant really get it until you try out some of their sweatshirts to see how they feel, their comfort and the way that they help to retain your body heat.
The Bottom Line
I found a few places in my area that sell some of the Fox Racing clothing including the Fox Forever line; I am hoping that theyll have some of the buy one, get one half off sales at the end of the winter season so I can stock up on more of them. But I will say this - if I need more sweatshirts and cant get them on sale, I wont hesitate to buy them at full price. Yes, I did say that. It isnt often that I will pay full price for something when I know that eventually it will go on sale but in the case of these sweatshirts, I most definitely will. You can check out all the awesome stuff from Fox Racing at their official website and online store at www.foxracing.com. They have items for men, women and children for outdoor sports, racing, motocross and most importantly - staying warm!
As always, thanks for the read!
