Hi Caroline, I'd been wondering where you were! I knew you'd love this one (you're fairly sane... for a purist! :-D)

Hey honey (Reply to this comment)
by dizzybint
Peeking my head in for a second to comment. I avoided all reviews of this until I saw it (which I did tonight,) and yours is the first I'm reading. I pretty much agree with everything you've said and I'm a purist. The opening sequence couldn't really be avoided since they had to set up the reason for the children going to the country, some of the special effects were a bit "off" but overall a rendition very true to the book. I did notice a few things that were changed but none of them affected the story proper so that was ok (and most people can't recite the book like I can.. almost,) I did think Aslan needed to be larger and more ferocious a few times but I'm being picky there. I actually got tears in my eyes as the film began, I love these books so much.
Love and hugs,
Caroline

Hey Beth!
Well I hope you find it worth the wait! (Can't you lock the kids in a cupboard for a few hours while you sneak off to the cinema? No? Well... it was just a thought!)

I'm so glad you liked this...I've been anticipating it for a while, and now that it's here I have to wait even longer (till Christmas, when we'll have free babysitting!) :-). I decided I'd let myself glance at a few epinions reviews though, just to see the general impression people are getting of the film, and your's is the first I've taken a peek at.
It sounds lovely -- and I'm so glad. The book is streamlined and simple enough that I actually thought an excellent film could be made of it (unlike Tolkien, who is so beautifully complex that it makes any movie an extra challenge).
Thanks for spreading the good news!

Is it just me, or does that Kong growl (just before the T-Rex fight) make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? I can't WAIT for KING KONG!!!

Oh I forgot about that one. I guess War of the Worlds was pretty big, but to me no sci-fi rehash starring Mr Cheese and directed be someone whose work in recent years can't touch some of his earlier work will be one of the really "big" films. But a valid point.

Hi amanda. I guess I wouldn't rate this film up with The Two Towers, but that was truly exceptional. Still, a completely different type of story even though it was from a fellow Inkspot. Hope it lives up to your expectations!
Thanks,

Sorry Bryan!! (It's not like I went to one of the morning showings, either! Sadly I still had to work through the day first...)
Actually this is the first time I've ever got the first review in of a major movie - all the others have been mostly unnoticed in the States, though Pride & Prejudice got me over a thousand hits.

This is a Joke Right? (Reply to this comment)
by El_Terrible
Those three movie may be the most anticipated films of the year but they're not the biggest...
Batman Begins was excellent but again I wouldn't call it the biggest film of the year either...
The movie that has caught many by surprise and was actually better than either Batman or Episode III (which are very good) in my opinion was War of the Worlds (this movie exceeded my already inflated expectations in a way that other films in this genre should have).

Didn't really like it. Good work Dave, nice to see that you've finally lost your taste again. I'd been getting worried these last few months.

I settled on this movie before King Kong.... (Reply to this comment)

and it feels, from your review, that it will be a good decision. Like Tolkien, this series of books was incredibly important to me in my adolescence and was lovingly read again to my own children. I've had a hard time waiting for it, and am so glad it is living up to the hype. Your review was superb.

I'm composing a review of my own right now. I just came back from the theater confident my review would be the first one posted in Epinions. I forgot about you folks in England being five hours ahead of us here in the Eastern U.S!
Maybe next time.
