| Trevsmom's Full Review: Target Stores |
I love Target! I am fortunate that I live within a 40 mile radius of three different Target Stores. One of them is only a mile from my house so I shop there often.
I like how Target is a bargain hunter’s paradise yet still offers high quality merchandise. Their clothing and housewares departments offer unique and stylish options. I also like how their stores are so clean and bright, with wide aisles that can accommodate their ample shopping carts.
There are three different kinds of Target stores, regular Targets, Target Greatland and Super Target. Regular Targets are the smallest. Target Greatland is considerably bigger with a larger media section and often has a restaurant inside. The one in my area has a Taco Bell. Super Target is like Super Walmart - all the regular merchandise plus a grocery store. We don’t have any Super Targets in my area so my review is based on the
experience with the smaller two.
Got Kids? Target is the place for you!
It is easy to see that Target stores were designed with families in mind. Their restrooms are spacious, with more than one stall and sink. There are also baby changing tables in the women’s restroom. I’ve never been in the men’s but I suppose I could ask my husband.
Their shopping carts easily accommodate a baby carrier/carseat. I never had any problem with mine when my son was an infant. They also have special carts that seat two children. Not all discount stores have these! The Walmarts in my area don’t.
The clothing they offer for kids is quite nice. Some of the brands they carry are Cherokee, Hanes, Mossimo, plus their own brands Honors and Circo. Their sale prices are very reasonable. I recently bought my son some summer t shirts for $4 each, and pocket shorts for $10.
Their baby and toddler clothes are adorable! I bought many cute outfits for my son there when he was in those sizes. In addition to clothes they also offer a nice selection of baby equipment like bottles, potty seats, strollers, and playpens. They also offer a gift registry called the Lullabye Club where expectant parents can scan the items they wish to receive and friends and relatives near and far can get the list at any Target store nationwide!
(They also offer a bridal gift registry called “Club Wed” snicker snicker!)
Men's and Women's clothes are just as reasonable - and stylish. I have purchased dress and casual clothes there and for the most part have been satisfied with my purchase. I did purchase a shirt there once that shrunk badly after I washed it, despite following washing instructions. I returned the shirt without a problem. I even went and got one off the rack to show the customer service clerk the difference.
Target also carries Maternity clothes. They don't have a large selection but it's better than none at all. Try finding Maternity at Walmart! You won't.
Toys! In addition to all the popular brands Target also carries some unique brands that are hard to find anywhere else. Try finding Playmobil at Walmart! Target has it. I also like their selection of toys made out of natural wood. They have puzzles, blocks, playsets, and beads, just to name a few.
I also find Target to have a nice selection of children’s books and videos - and all books are discounted 10%!! Chances are you will find your child’s favorite characters on the shelves.
Bargains abound!
Some other reviewers mentioned how Target’s prices aren’t very competitive with other discount stores. I haven’t found this to be the case at all. In may area there is a lot of competition. We have in addition to Target Walmart, Kmart and Shopko for discount stores. Other competition includes Menards and Home Depot, for hardware and outdoor things.
I’ve found that it’s very easy to match competitor’s prices at Target. Just bring in the competitor’s ad and the cashier will give you the lower price. I’ve tried doing this at the competition’s stores and usually end up holding up the checkout line because the cashier has to verify it with their supervisor, then they have to call the store, etc. etc. It is such a hassle! By price matching at Target I save time and gas because I don’t have to drive to another store to get the great prices.
I also love their Clearance deals! These prices are easy to spot. Just look for the red signs on the end of an aisle. You can save 30% or more off the original price. Each item is ticketed with a little red sticker showing the original and the clearance price. I recently bought some perfume that was originally marked $17.99 and I got it for $4.44! Wondering if the price will indeed scan correctly? You can take the item to any one of their price scanners located throughout the store to verify the price. Sometimes the price will scan for lower than it is marked!
Target has become known in the bargain hunter world for their fantastic Clearance deals. I know of one online bulletin board devoted to Target good deals. Members post what they’ve found, how much (or how little) they’ve paid and the store’s location. I visit this board periodically to see what’s knew. This is one and I’m sure there are others in the vastness of the World Wide Web.
That’s great but what about customer service?
In all of the many many visits I have made to Target stores over the past few years I have never encountered poor service. I have found Target employees to be curteous and helpful. I can’t say the same about their competition, however. If I can’t find something or have a question it is easy to find an employee who will help. If they don’t know the answer then they will find someone who does. I like how they have phones located throughout the store for customers to use. These phones are red (or course!). Just pick one up and follow the simple directions. I also like how employees carry walkie talkie-like devices to communicate with one another. I have come in to buy a sale item only to find the shelf bare. So, I find an employee working in that department and they call back to the stock area to see if there are more. If not they give me a raincheck. No problem. Target employess are easy to spot. Just look for the red shirt!
Returns are never a hassle either. I always save all my receipts so it is never a problem if I have to return something. Never have I encountered a surly return desk clerk telling me “no, we can’t take this back”. I do not know their policy on returns without a receipt because I’ve never tried it.
My shopper recommendation
If you have a Target near you, or if you happen upon when you are traveling go check it out! New stores are opening up all the time. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes though because you may find yourself doing a lot of walking, especially if you are in one of their larger stores. It is easy to spend an hour or more in Target checking out all the great deals! Oh, and they do sell shoes there so if you want to ditch your old ones and find a new pair of sneakers or sandals you’ve come to the right place.
Happy shopping!
