This is a fantasy story based on the books by C. S. Lewis. It is also a childrens story. C.S. Lewis was a Christian and he wanted to write a fantasy story and pay tribute to Jesus Christ. He did this through the character Aslan who died and was resurrected in the movie. This is actually a small part of the movie. The movie is viewed through the eyes of 4 children that get caught in this fantasy world and become heroes during their journey.
The special effects were very well done. They were seamlessly integrated into the story, not a distraction. There were times when I was not sure what was a costume, prop, or computer animation. When I saw the first character it took me a few minutes to realize that part of his body had to be computer graphics. I was first thinking, how can he walk in those shoes. Once you see the movie you will know what I mean. I am sure a lot of the actors were wearing a lot of green.
The music was captivating. I seemed like a combination of the 80s Narada style music, Toys, and Enya. It was beautiful and elegant. Just like any good sound track it set the emotion and mood of the scenes and he really nailed it on the head. I will probably buy the C.D.
The acting was just above average. It was not bad but it wasnt captivating either. I constantly saw scenes where in my own mind I could see the actors doing a much better job. This was one of the things that bothered me and kept it from being a truly great film. No one is getting a statue in this department. For the record, I thought the 2 girls did the best job out of the cast (and that cute dwarf.)
I was also wondering why there were so many low ratings for this film. Well it kind of dawned on me while driving home. This is a childrens movie, not a movie for adults. Well most reviewers were adults so I can see why they gave it a lower rating. I too was bothered by the corny parts of the movie, some lack of realism, and lack of blood. But for a childrens movie these need to be removed.
I highly recommend this movie because it is one of the few fantasy movies written for children. It is not very scary and is an easy movie to follow. The only two issues I think adults will have with the movie is it is very predictable and corny in spots. But if you come in expecting those drawbacks then I think you will enjoy it, it is a good story.
Who is this for?
Children and children at heart that dont need blood and guts on the screen.
Rating
8.4 out of ten.
The rating
PG.
There is no real blood and only animated violence. I think it is fine for children especially since this is the audience they geared the story to.
Duration
2 hours & 12 minutes.
Am I going to buy it?
Absolutely. Both, for my children and the making of featurettes. I really want to see how they did it.
