| imy01's Full Review: Kenwood KAC-8152D Car Audio Amplifier |
I come from a family who favors Kenwood, so naturally the first amp I ever bought for my car was...a Kenwood. For those of you who have heard a Kenwood amp play, you know that there is deep, rich, no-distortion bass to be had from them. However, I must stress that the amp will only sound as good as the equipment its being run through!!! For me, this was a Kicker Solo-Baric L7, and the sound is just great. My only problem is that I have such ridiculous rattles that sprang up after the bass shook my car up too much! As far as the amp goes, the pros are the frequency response and low harmonic distortion. On the cons side, I think that the quality of the amp is not quite as high as the Kenwood tradition calls for. First of all, the new amps are now made in China, as opposed to Japan or other nations. This amp in particular has only one flaw...I find that it overheats much too quickly. It does go into a protection mode when it gets too hot, but I have it well-ventilated and still have it shut off on me every once in a while, especially during the summer. But at the volumes that I play it at, if it didn't shut off I would probably be deaf by now...So, overall, I like this amp, it is for the most part on par with the traditional Kenwoods as well as Nakamichi, Proton, Fosgate, and Alpine...I just wish it didn't get hot so quickly!
