When booking your reservation I have found the best way to ensure the best rate is to get in good with the person on the 800 # you call.
Don’t call and start rambling about this club and that club and this discount or your cousin stayed there for$49. That is really irrelevant to you getting the rate you want. Remember that the call is a 2-way conversation. At the beginning you are always expected to answer the standard questions such as location, arrival date, number of rooms and occupants, etc. Get over it, you can’t get rates until they know what you want.
Did you know that Hilton owns Hampton now? What a treat. I can earn Hhonors points for staying with Hampton Inns! There is a trick though. When you are checking in you must tell the front desk you want these points! Very Important! If you stay at any hotel more than once a year you should join Hhonors with Hilton. You can earn points for staying at the Hiltons, Hampton Inns, Doubletree, Red Lions, Homewood Suites, and Embassy Suites.
After you pick your location etc now is the time to bring up your memberships. Mention Automobile Club Associations like AAA, or the Lifestyle 50 program, special rate for anyone over 50. Don’t be shy, they give it… Take it!!!
If you don’t belong to any of these ask if they have any special promotions for weekend rates or getaway rates. Remember! This is a game… If you don’t ask you wont get it. Get in good with the call taker. They will offer more to you.
