Uber Cool But Ultra Warm - Fox Racing’s "Fox Forever" Long Sleeve Youth Shirt

Until my oldest discovered girls he was never overly concerned with what he wore. That all changed when he met and fell for Aimee. They’ve been together for a while now and their relationship has weathered him going to school abroad, the rest of the family moving cross country and relying on emails instead of phone calls to stay in touch. I am assuming that the rest of the brood will follow the same pattern in regards to clothing taste [but please, let them wait to find their ‘true love’] - as long as it is clean, they’ll wear it. When we moved my youngest had the worst time with staying warm, no matter how many layers of clothing he’d put on, he still felt cold. When I saw the Fox Forever long sleeved t-shirts on sale I didn’t give it a second thought about making the purchase. The entire Fox Racing line of clothing is exceptional and well worth the suggested retail price. He rolled his eyes at them and indulged me; I’d finally found something that would keep him warm and give him a little bit of ‘style’. Having had more than a few Fox Racing pieces of clothing in the past I knew that these shirts would hold up well regardless of how much they were worn.
Fox Forever Long Sleeve Youth T-Shirt
One of the nicest things about this shirt is that it has a nice cut to it. Some long sleeved shirts have huge pockets of material under the arm; this one has a generous cut but not so much so that it is bulky if you wear something under or over it. The sleeves are long and have an inch and a half of elastic material around the wrist that, so far, hasn’t weakened or stretched. The neckline doesn’t feel constrictive or tight and can easily be worn with a turtleneck under it on colder days. My youngest can’t stand to have shirts with a tight neck so for him to wear a turtleneck in the first place is a miracle let alone trying to have him wear one with something over it. When he tried this on at the store to see if it was the correct size he wasn’t all that enthused about it. To him it was just a shirt with long sleeves - he’s about as far from a fashion plate as you can get. He walked around with it on for a couple of minutes and said that it felt pretty good - for him to say something like that is the equivalent of a normal kid bouncing off the walls.
The shirt comes in several different colors with the Fox Forever logo on the front. This is where buying them online can get tricky - some of them have the words “Fox Racing” running down the sides of the sleeves and some don’t. This shirt does have the Fox Racing logo down the sleeve and so far it hasn’t puckered, faded or peeled away from the shirt. Regardless of the color shirt you pick, the silk screened logo is in white except the white shirt that come in red or black silk screening. They are made up of a 90/10 cotton poly blend [pre shrunk] so they are super soft against the skin but strong enough to hold up to extreme sports. They are one of the basic designs in the Fox Racing Fox Forever line of shirts. Because of the cut and design of the shirt they can be worn by girls or boys however if the girl has started to ‘mature’ a little, you may want to go with a larger size so it isn’t super tight in the chest area.
Color Options
Most retail stores carry this in blue and red but if you shop online you can also pick it up in orange, light blue, white and black. When we got the shirts there were only two colors to choose from; red and black so that’s what we went with - one of each. Both of them have washed nicely but if you have a kid that is accident prone with food, I’d stay away from the light blue color. A friend of mine bought an adult sized light blue one and as soon as any food got on it, the stain marks really showed because of the light color. The Fox Racing website usually has all of the colors in stock but if the colors they show for this shirt aren’t to your liking they have similar ones with more choices.
Care & Cleaning
You’ll want to wash this with similar colors and to preserve the silk screening, turn it inside out before washing. I only dry these for about ten minutes then hang them up so that it doesn’t get wrinkled. This also keeps them from shrinking if you are drying them with heavy items that take a while to dry. So far both of the shirts have washed up nicely and the silk screened image on it hasn’t peeled or faded. The red one still has the same color to it and the black one hasn’t shown any signs of bleeding or fading that can happen with darker colored t-shirts. If you do get stains on it try to wash them as soon as possible, you can use a pretreater like Spray 'N Wash if you want but don’t take a stain brush to it or you will end up with a faded spot.
Sizes
This comes in three sizes; small, medium and large but you have to keep in mind that these are youth sizes so if you have a tall or slightly husky child you’ll want to buy it in a size larger than what they normally wear. In my opinion these are sized a little smaller than normal youth shirts however there is almost no shrinkage when you wash it. If possible, try this on at a retail store before you buy it online; you will be able to get the best price online but that won’t mean much if it doesn’t fit right.
Price
You can find this long sleeved shirt anywhere from $12.99 to $16.99 depending on where you shop. A local extreme sport shop had them on sale, buy one get the second half off with the base price being $13.99 so I was able to get the second one for $6.99. My son wasn’t really into the Fox Forever line of clothing but he did like the way that it fit, the length of the sleeves and that he could wear it under a sweatshirt without it feeling bulky. The price might seem a little high but this is a long sleeve shirt that will last a long time if you wash it correctly and take care of stains as soon as they happen.
The Bottom Line
Like I said, my son wasn’t really into the shirts when I got them for him; he’s the kind of kid that will wear what ever is clean. He likes the way that they fit under sweatshirts; no bunching up under the arm or feeling like the neck line is squeezing the life out of you. He has several different Fox Forever shirts now and really likes the way that they fit him. He’s average size so he doesn’t really have a problem finding shirts and jeans but he doesn’t handle the cold weather very well so he needs to have stuff that he can layer. Thanks to the cut and size of most of the Fox Forever and Fox Racing clothing, he can do this without losing mobility or looking like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. For the price these were some of the best long sleeved shirts I’ve picked up for him and when he grows out of them, I will definitely buy more of them for him.
