Please do not buy anything from The Sports Authority. I will never purchase another product from this store or its affiliates, Garth Sports or Sportsmart. Quite simply, they suck! Unfortunately, my wife nor I did not read any reviews of this store before she had made an order for a Pittsburgh Steelers football jersey which was to be a Christmas gift for our 11 year old daughter. Please consider this, when you see many negative responses about an on-line store, take it as a red flag. You can not please everyone and thus end up with one or two negative responses, but when there are more than ten negative responses, read this as a warning.
My complaint and dissatisfaction with The Sports Authority is that they are not up front about their service and when you try to contact them about a problem, they are not helpful.
Here are the facts:
My wife had placed an order for the football jersey two weeks before Christmas Eve. The website said it will leave the warehouse "5-10 full business days" which we knew might be close to Christmas, but she made the order because they had a lower price and appeared to be a large retailer. More importantly, the website said the item was "IN STOCK". I have a feeling that the reason it takes 5-10 days to ship an item is because The Sports Authority does not have the item in stock in their warehouse, but they act as a broker forwarding orders to a vendor who in turn sends the item to The Sports Authority's warehouse. She had received an email stating that she had purchased "advanced sale items that are unavailable for immediate shipment....The following item(s) will be shipped when it is in stock...". So they MISREPRESENTED about having the jersey in stock. In addition, in this email, it stated that the item will be shipped "standard ground" which their website is via UPS or USPS. The Sports Authority shipped the jersey by UPS Media Mail which takes 4-6 days longer than Standard Ground shipping. Again, they misrepresented their service. Had my wife had known that The Sports Authority did not truly have the jersey in stock and would send an item by media mail, she would have ordered the item from another online retailer at a higher price just to ensure delivery by Christmas.
After seven days of not hearing from The Sports Authority, my wife called customer service to find out the status of our order. She ended up waiting 30 minutes to talk to a customer service representative who was not at all very nice. In addition, the service rep told my wife that the jersey is in their warehouse in Kentucky and it will be shipped out the "next day". The invoice stated that the jersey was shipped out 6 days later. The customer service rep misrepresented the shipping date. My wife was unable to get an assurance or satisfaction from the rep.
The only thing truthful of The Sports Authority is that they did ship the jersey within 5-10 full business days. But because they did not ship the jersey by the shipping method they stated, one 11 year old girl, who was excited about having a Hines Ward football jersey, did not get to find this present on Christmas day. Instead she had to open a large envelope on December 27th to get her gift. Good riddance to The Sports Authority.
