Being exposed to computers at the tender age of 8, the first computer I ever came into contact was the Apple IIC. Apple vs. Commodore, ah, those were the days. Simple machines with many complexities, as we all know, to come. Boy how the times have changed. Commodore has gone by the way side and Apple, once seemed swashed by the giant, Microsoft, have made a miraculous comeback. Although scarcely recognized as a home computer, they have become very popular at convenience and technology.
Having been a life-long user of the Windows operating system and an advent user of MusicMatch, was it unlikely Apple would play a big part in my life, until recently.
For many years, I have relied on MusicMatch to scan the internet for the latest album art and correct titles to my monstrous music collection. Albeit, slow at times, it was the best product for music maniacs, such as I, could find. Until one week ago.
At onetime, the MusicMatch and the iTunes relationship was mutual; each letting one another use their program to transfer songs from player to manager without hiccup, but since the introduction to online music services, they have vastly drifted apart. For one; Apple no longer provides a plug-in for iPod to MusicMatch to transfer music.
Frustrated, I began to surf the internet hours on end for a patch to mend the new iPod to MusicMatch so I would be able to use my longtime music manager with the new generation iPod I had received for Xmas. Unsuccessful, I was forced to use the unfamiliar and, god forbids, Apple product, iTunes.
After cursing the download of an Apple product to my Windows computer; was it again that I had come to the realization that MusicMatch really was no comparison to iTunes.
Yes, MusicMatch WILL surf the internet for updated tags and album art; let me choose how it will rename files; and transfer songs to a portable device BUT, after only one, yes one, week of using iTunes, was I able to easily manage my collection of songs (finding duplicates with a simple click of the mouse) and create group and album names all while I sleep. Sure, it has only cost me $19.99 and two years to get my music sorted and renamed with MusicMatch, but in the one week I have used iTunes, my results are staggering and the best part: iTunes is FREE.
iTunes seems to do all I had believed of MusicMatch except behind the scenes while you aimlessly surf the internet or manage your personal finances, at a much quicker, ok, unthinkable, time. iTunes picks songs for you to place in the Party Shuffle group simply based on what you have chosen in the past. The very simple Smart Playlist lets you decide which characteristics you want in your playlist (hence smart).
Why has a company, MusicMatch, which is dedicated to, hmmm, music, not been able to provide the level of satisfaction and ease of use which I have come to love and enjoy with iTunes? iTunes; Simplistic, friendly, just downright WOW!
