Pros:Affordable expandable memory, easy to operate, long battery life.
Cons:Bit on the bulky side, crappy headphones.
The Bottom Line: Affordable expandable memory is the key selling point with the HipZip. Anyone looking for an alternative to expensive Flash Memory and bulky CD-R players will love this!

I first read about this product on Amazon.com a few months ago. I was intrigued by the fact that you can use it as a portable drive as well as an MP3 player. I was looking for a replacement for the Sony MusicClip MP3 player I had bought an suffered with for a year and the HipZip seemed like a logical improvement. My main complaint with the MusicClip was the lack of expandable memory and difficult to use interface. The HipZip filled my every requirement! It was easy to install and use the hardware and software. It has 40MB of memory per disk and best of all, the disks are cheaper than flash memory! 40MB may seem paltry next to the CD-R drives out there, but I was looking for something that wouldn't take up as much space as a CD-R drive. Having said that, the HipZip is not small (larger than a pack of cigarettes) but still it is smaller than a CD-R. The larger backlit LCD screen displays all the relevent track info and is easy to read and understand. The battery lasts forever! I have taken it to work and back as well as out on the town for hours and not once have I seen the battery meter read anything other than full! The thoughtful folks at Iomega have even provided a cool Body Glove carry case. This little machine is great for the MP3 enthusiast who is looking for expandable memory without having to pay extravagant prices for the memory. 80MB of memory runs about $40 (two 40MB disks per pack). Not nearly as bad as Flash Memory which runs upwards of $150. I have already filled 3 disks with files and I am expanding daily.
