This is wonderful! (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for writing about the pets who are often forgotten. Boy, I'd adopt a few of those older lap cat's if I could talk my hb into it. Even though we already have 8 cat-kids, 2 dog-kids, a rabbit-kid and 2 dove-kids along with 3 of the regular kind.Cats are like potatoes chips, you can't have just one. High fives to animal lovers everywhere! Smiles, Char

How depressing. (Reply to this comment)

That black pomeranian sounds so sweet, all the animals do. Maybe people who are homeless themselves can't keep their animal with them. So sad. I wish I could come to NYC to collect a needy pet.

There has only been a little bit of coverage of these pets. I have begged my husband to let us take one - I hope your review pushes him over the top :) jo

and the tears (Reply to this comment)

are flowing again. I wish I were in NYC. I support a no kill shelter on Long Island (North Shore Animal League) never been there, never seen the place but I know they go out whenever there is a disaster and help the animals. They went down to huricanes Andrew and Opal and whatever the others were. They go where ever there are floods. They are like Red Cross for animals.

a poor old collie? thats so sad, and reminds me of my dog.
People who abandon their pets I hope are someday abandoned by those most dear to them.
If you're moving out of the city, there is really a higher likelihood that you could have a pet. One who would abandon a pet is a very low life form

Animals need help, but when will they get help? (Reply to this comment)
by neomartin
Most people think of the people who are missing or dead when the subject is the terrorist attacks of 911-2001. Many of the dead or missing must have been pet owners, but their pets won't know their owners are missing until it is too late. By then, it may be too late for them, too-- people who would notice may have left the area themselves. I'm not a pet owner, but I can see how the terrorist attacks would harm the animals and pets.

BTW-- what does CACC stand for? I didn't see it explained in the opinion.

A wake up call . . . (Reply to this comment)
by ed_grover
to all those who love their pets. I was particularly upset by the description of the people dropping off older "lap cats" who will have little chance of being adopted. In all my years of having cats, I have never gotten one to sit in my lap. Next to me, yes, but not on me . . . but I smoked then, so maybe that was it.

This was really a great review of a worthy service. I hope it causes people in the area to adopt.I wish I was there to take one now that I've decided to have an animal in my life again. I'll just have to go to the Humane Society here in Milwaukee.

It's good to hear that several organizations have stepped up to help out animals in this crises. Peta-online.org has also joined this effort. Great review, makes a good reference.

I'd wondered what happened to the animals and pets in adjoining buildings. I myself own a small menagerie of creatures, admittedly due to a wife who couldn't stand to see a stray. A good little posting, and I hope some good comes of it.

Thanks, Micheal

this is really sad. I hadn't thought about pets but it does make sense. This is so very sad amongst all the other sadness. I hope these loving animals find their ways home, and for those that have lost their families I hope they find new ones to love them. This has been such a tragedy, it all makes me so very sad. Very nice review.
