I got to visit here in 1980. Ironically it was the same summer that I saw St. Helens erupt just 2 months earlier. So needless to say it was sort of a strange feeling being up there.

describes well just how active the land is in Central America. I was there in the early 70's and recall how, while exploring in our 4WD, we came upon a lava flow that had stopped right in the middle of a field of growing corn. It is amazing to think about how people living there live right at the feet of active volcanoes!
